Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Psa 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Psa 1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

This psalm describes a blessed man.

He is a man who:
- forsakes ungodly counsel (that is, sayings or teachings that is not of God or not in agreement with the Word of God);
- does not stand in the way of those who sin against God (that is he does not remain in the course of life of sinners to live the way they live or do as they do;
- who does not sit in the seat of the scornful (as one who judges with haughty contempt and derision);
- who delights himself not in ungodly sayings or actions or attitudes but in the law of the Lord which is the Word of God.
-who meditates upon the Word of God (and nothing contrary to it) day and night.

Such a man who turns from ungodly sayings, doings and thinking and derives his joy from and wholly devotes himself to the Word of God will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.

This term rivers of water bears similarity to the phrase rivers of living water used by Jesus.

John 7:38-39
[38]He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
[39](But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

So a man who separates himself utterly from things that are not of God (refusing to speak, do or think as the ungodly do) and wholly delights and devotes himself to the things of God will be the man who receives the Spirit of God.

This is again echoed in another scripture that speaks of receiving the Spirit of God.

Eze 36:23 And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. Eze 36:24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Eze 36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. Eze 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Eze 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Note that God says that Israel has defiled his name but he will sanctify His name.
How does He do this?
First, He utterly separates Israel from the ungodly nations.
Then He washes her of her filthiness and her idols.

This filthiness has come about from worshipping idols or other gods.

Worship has two elements:
-Worshipping under the anointing of a spirit
- Worshipping according to teachings or actions

John 4:23-24
[23]But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
[24]God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

God requires that we worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.
This is His Spirit and His Truth.

His Truth is His Word....
