"Are you sure a bomb explosion can be heard over five hundred kilometers?
The capital city is that far."Aditi asked her friends, nibbling on a chocolate.
"Maybe what we heard are real explosions, because it's the dead of night." "Sound can travel faster, and you could hear it more clearly."Samira and Sharanya answered. They were waiting in their small, cold room, their bags packed with food, water and a portable charger.
They woke up that morning to hear the news that their country is under attack. Will we go back home again? Is this war thing true?Must be true..
Is it that serious? Can't believe things changed overnight....Their thoughts were interrupted by air raid sirens, depressingly loud and later distant.
It was pitch black outside, not a single soul in sight.Other residents' hurried footsteps echoed in the corridors. The friends got up,and walked towards the door.Samira reached for the knob, but a boy barged in and announced something important, and that it was too late already.
They ran down the stairs, their flip flops making a slapping noise with each step they took.Cold breeze was gusting through the branches of tall trees.Drawing their coats closer to their bodies felt impossible. With their teeth chattering, they struggled to walk, heavy backpacks weighing them down."It says there is no network! Please try later! What's wrong with the signal? What will happen now?"Aditi's words made them stop in their tracks, when they realized that there was no wi-fi.No more data either.
People were pouring into the streets. It was hard to believe that a crowd that huge lived in their tiny town with a handful of houses.Atms hung cardboard signs saying they were out of cash.Carrybags bulging with groceries, and trolleys overflowing with ready to eat meals and snacks were the only things the friends could see as they tried to push through the mob.
As if a magnetic force is pulling them together, the masses rose into the air,and stayed there, suspended in mid-air for a few seconds.Their arms and legs gradually stretched wide apart, like they want to embrace someone.Slowly their bodies inched towards each other, and then linked arms.Sharanya was the first to recover. Her eyes widened more when she looked around, there were a few people apart from herself and her friends standing on the ground.Their expressions reflected her own confusion and shock.
The billboards around them glitched."News flash! You are about to witness a huge storm!A brilliant once in a lifetime opportunity!Brace for the storm!"A cold, steely voice repeated the instructions.A red blob appeared on the screens,it's mouth twisted into a devilish grin. The frame shifted a little to accommodate an old woman. Her hand formed a gun sign, pointing straight at the viewers, she shot, her mocking laughter reverberating in their minds. The human gun formation in front of them seemed more frightening than her finger gun,but it wasn't a bullet that shot out of it.It was the gun that shot itself into space, shedding humans, sending them where they belong,on its way there.
"The package delivered to you from us has your precious belongings. Please teach their souls to be more cooperative in their next life. You will be compensated for your loss.Thank you for being a part of our experiment, you must be so proud. The sensors in their groceries will be collected by our team soon."The three friends never saw the people who received their own packages again.
