A Woman Under the Influence!
"Mabel is not crazy, she’s unusual. She’s not crazy, so don’t say she’s crazy."

A Woman Under the Influence (1974) Directed by John Cassavetes

The film that permanently changed my expectations of what a film could be and do. Formally and temporally audacious 45 minutes pass before it becomes clear who these people are and what is happening to them so emotionally and psychologically complex and unstable that it is impossible to process regardless of what's happening, every body gesture and conversational turn.

I feel cinema has never been so alive, with all of life's complexities. A Woman Under the Influence is masterful, made by a filmmaker in full possession of cinema’s tools. Freedom and control become one in this movie. #bestfilmever

Watching this film we can’t be sure about who is good and who isn’t, I think NICK is one of the reasons that drove MABEL into madness CASSAVETES foreshadowed that in scene when NICK takes MABEL from the light to the darkness, the camera moves and behave similarly to the human eye, it sometimes showing us NICK imperfect eyes indicating to his imperfect personality, his anger is what triggered MABEL nervousness. NICK isn't bad, he's just a little annoyed with his wife's behavior like everyone is.

There is no bad or good person in this movie, it is all a game of emotions and behaviour!

I loved this film and thought Gena Rowlands played one of the best female character performances I've ever seen. She was both beautiful and adoreable, a loving mother and also very troubled, disturbed and an overall damaged woman. There's theories to discuss about whether she was really "crazy" or if she was just abused heavily by her husband played by Peter Falk, who was a bit unstable himself. With age, it's a true masterpiece, an emotional gauntlet and a nuanced, epic family portrait.

One of the greatest analysis on our requirements for sustaining normality, and also one of the most touching love stories I´ve witnessed. In contrast to many emotionally devastating films, this one has an rare abilitiy to encourage living.

This movie may not be the whole truth, but it doesn't lie not even once.
