The story of 'LA Llorona'
We offen hear the name 'LA llorona' and associate the name with a wailing woman whose misdeeds in life have left her spirit trapped on Earth, where she torments little children but do we really know the origin of this tale. For horror fans and ghost-story lovers alike, La Llorona’s is a tale worth knowing.
The story depends upon the person who is narrating it. Basically-
There was a beautiful woman named maria, she fell in love and marriage a rich man and had 2 children.......Even after having the children her marriage was going through a rough phrase. He spent less time at home and even when he was at home he would spend time with children and not with her. Eventually Marie came to know about his affairs. Enraged beyond reason, some versions claim Maria drowned her two children—but she immediately regretted it, crying out, “Ay, mis hijos!” (Translation: “Oh, my children!” or “Oh, my sons!”)

Maria is sometimes said to have drowned herself afterward. But when she arrived at heaven’s gates, she was denied entry, banished back to purgatory on Earth until she could find her lost children. Some versions of the story say she kidnaps or attacks children; others say she attacks cheating husbands. Regardless, when you hear her cries, the directive remains the same: run away because it said that it may bring misfortune or even death. La Llorona kidnaps wandering children at night, mistaking them for her own. She begs God for forgiveness but in order for her to go, she needs to find her children. It says that she drowns the children she kidnaps. Hoping she finds her kids.

In another variation, in a rural village in Mexico, there lived a beautiful young woman named Maria. She came from a poor family but was known around her village for her beauty and grace. One day, an extremely wealthy nobleman was riding through her village and stopped in his tracks. He had traveled all over the world and had never seen anyone as beautiful as Maria. He was mesmerized by her. He knew that he had to win her heart. Maria was easily charmed by him and he was charmed by her beauty, so when he proposed to her, she immediately accepted. Eventually, the two married, and Maria gave birth to two sons. Her husband was always traveling and he stopped spending time with his family. When he came home, he only paid attention to the children and as time passed Maria could tell that her husband was falling out of love with her because she was getting old. One day he returned to the village with a younger woman, and bid his children farewell, ignoring Maria.

Maria, angry and hurt, took her children to a river and drowned them in a blind rage. She realized what she had done and searched for them, but the river had already carried them away. Days later, her husband came back and asked about the children, but Maria started weeping and said that she had drowned them and then he said that without them, he wouldn't accept her again. And then she drowned herself in guilt and grief. And now she is still searching for her children.
Honestly I know this version of the story but I am quite sure there are many versions to it. But the message is the same in every tale. We should never take decisions or do anything when we are angry or else, this would end up bad.
Also the story was narrated by the mothers to their children so that they won't go outside when it is dark. And even I believe that this tale is nothing but a story made up to scare children, but the movies which were made, gave it the hype and thus LA llorona became a legend.
People who claim to have seen her say she appears at night or in the late evening by rivers or lakes, wearing a white gown with a veil and also has heard her cry.
Which gave a new point to the story that she dresses in white. This proves that the tale of LA llorona is been changed with time and people. So for me, The legend of LA llorona is nothing but a story made up for entertainment. But I know, that many people believe its existence.
