The Crane
The crane stood tall on top of the enormous building. It twisted and moved from side to side as the wind blew. As the gales picked up in their anger. People walked down on the street keeping close to the buildings. desperately clinging onto their umbrellas as the wind ripped them inside out. Rain splashing down on the already flooded ground. Spray bouncing back onto people's trousers.

A homeless guy trying to keep out of the rain and beg at the same time is ignored more than usual. He doesn't want to be there as much as people don't want him to be. He has no choice.

A businesswoman running in high heels holding her handbag over her hair. trying to dodge the drops of rain. makeup running down her face in long black streaks.

A builder just walking. He is fully aware of the heavy persistent rain. He is also aware he can't get any wetter. In his head, he laughed at the people desperately trying to keep dry.

Carrying bags of shopping a mother of two. Walks hunched over mumbling about her life. complaining about the weather and how she had kids too young. Wishing her husband would stand up and be a man. Quit his job and provide for them.

The crane continued to sway under the battering from the weather. The counterbalance concrete weights pulling harder at the top heavy machinery.

Back and forth it rocked. Pulling at the anchor bolts holding it down to the rooftop. Working at the bolts pulling at them. One snapped then another. The guide wires pulling right and slackening adding to the pressure on the bolts. More and more a snapped firing off like bullets. The metal screached under the pressure twisting under it's own weight.

Not one person looked up to see the crane as it toppled over. Off the edge of the building. Down it fell in silence. A giant pile of metal and concrete falling.

The four people walking unaware of there fate. All from different backgrounds. All just as mortal as the next.
