A jewel for life
#WritcoStoryPrompt5
The diamond necklace on the mannequin looked familiar. She placed her palm on the window that separated them and leaned in closer drinking in the beauty that lies before her with intensity. Trying so hard to piece up the puzzle because it looks so familiar to let it be. With thousands of thoughts running wild in her head she let out a heavy sigh.
As she was having an inner battle she could feel that someone was looking intensely at her. She was just frozen on her stand that she couldn't turn around and look for the source. She freaked out and jump that made the passerby startled and stared at her weirdly. Making a haste she went to the only place that holds her answer.
Mrs. Hope stood by the doorway with her Kashmir shawl drape over her petite shoulder which could hardly hold the shawl in place. When she saw a figure appeared to be running towards her she smiled but that smile turned into tears that she have been holding so long. Her child is back!. "Mother! Mother!!" gasp Cathy. 'How are you holding up? Pardon me I've been away so long'. Mrs. Hope couldn't contain her joy and opened her arms for a welcoming embrace. "My darling you're back. And that's enough for me. Come let's get you inside, I've made your favorite chocolate brownies and it's still tasty as it was". "Oh mother how did you know that I was coming home?. "Darling I just knew and everyday I waited by the door to welcome you".
Cathy was so happy to be back that she was watching her mother gracefully pouring her caffeine and that's when she noticed that something was missing from her mother. And it striked her like a thunderbolt that the diamond necklace was once her mother's. With tears in her eyes she asked her mother dreading the answer. "Mother! Why did you sell your necklace?". " Oh it's nothing honey. I have a lot more with me so I parted with that to keep our house. You don't have to worry, worrying adds more ugly wrinkles to yorh skin". She finished her story which was partly true and partly made up. But she is up for anything to make her only baby happy. Cathy didn't buy the excuse but she don't want to argue so she just left it there. Sliding all her troubling thoughts pushed to the corner she smiled and hug her mother with love. Been home finally is her dream come true... She won't waste any ticking of a second go in waste. With love, and contentment she will rebuild her relationship and a loving home to welcome the young one.🍁
