Get me to Washington Street; two hundred bucks, right?" Markins inquired from the taxi driver that he had just stopped at the express.
"Yeah, hop in." The taxi driver responded, and he zoomed off immediately when he saw Markins settle in.
Markins had earlier sprung up from his seat; immediately, he came to his senses with the aim of visiting home and confirming the devastating news.
Soon enough, he alighted at Washington Street, paid the driver, and made his way into the tiered street. He couldn't contain it anymore as he began running at a faster pace.
"Junia! What the hell were you spitting out earlier, huh? Why would Mama be gone now, huh?" He interrogated his sister right after he got to his mom's apartment and stepped in, but the latter gave a refusal attitude of responding and only stood to go in.
Markins had wanted to make his way in to check on his dead mother, but the creaking sound of the door halted him.
He turned his head to glance, and it was the familiar face of the one he despised—George Ray—Junia's lover.
George walked in with a cellophane bag in his hand. At that moment, Markins knew Geroge had been around before then; probably he stepped out to get certain things, which would no doubt be meant for Junia.
"Hi." George passed a vague greeting to Markins...
