Nothing Wrong With Being Yourself
My name is Reign, and I've been keeping my distance with other people for my whole life, I have no interests in human beings. The only time I'm ever out in the open is when I have to go to school, I sit alone and I keep myself quiet, the only person I ever talk to is myself, and this boy on a dating website. He always talks about meeting each other in person, but I always say something like "Maybe some other time, I don't feel so good today." or "No, not today, I'm berried in a pile of homework.". Some things don't change until this day.

See, today at school was #Openup day, which was bad luck for me. I wasn't ready to open up to the world, it was too much for me, I wanted to die at that very day. I wanted to impersonate my mom and say that I was sick, but I remembered the last time I did that, and my mom was not happy, so I decided to employ a little strategy. I picked some video on my photos of me talking about myself, and sent it to the schools website, that way I won't have to tell everyone everything on a stage on #Openup day tomorrow. Thank goodness.

Today was finally #Openup day, and I was crossing my fingers, hoping the school got my video. The principal announced that they got a video from me, and that she was going to play it on the big screen and we all had to pay close attention, the video played for about a half hour, then one of the kids (known as Arthur Writes) spoke up. "What kind of loser is that?", my eyes widened with shock and my heart broken into smithereens. "I-I'm not a loser."

"Well you sure act like it."

Arthur was known for his athletic skills, muscular body and riches, and he was a completely rude person, "I tried to make it interesting, I promise." I tried to reason, but Arthur just pushed me against the wall and started laughing at me, making the rest of the sports team laugh along with him. I ran out of the cafeteria and out of the school, I ran as fast as I could and ended up at the Golden Gate Bridge, and I sat near the edge of it in the cold cold rain. Then I heard car beeping noises and flickering lights.

I turned around to see what it was and I saw a Porsche SUV, and l saw my mom come out of the driver seat. "Get in." she said, I immediately got in the guest seat and my mom and I drove home, the first thing I wanted to do was run upstairs to my room and suffocate myself with my pillow in my own bed, but my mom grabbed my wrist before I could run anywhere. "I'm going to make dinner, you stay in the living room and don't go anywhere. We're going to address the elephant in the room later." she said, and without another word, I went to the living room and immediately sat down on the couch.

When my mom finished making dinner, she came into the living room and sat next to me on the couch, "The school called, said some asshole named Arthur Writes embarrassed you and made fun of your personality reveal for #Openup day." she explained, "Mom, I didn't know what else to do, so I just ran and hid-" I tried to say before I was cut off. "You hid just because you revealed who you really are? Why?" she asked, "Because I felt as if nobody would understand the real person inside." I replied, my mom stood there, not looking at me in the eye, but she still looked very worried.

She told me "I thought the same thing when I met your father, I thought he would never love me because I had a few health difficulties, but he loved me anyway. Then when you were born, he said we were gonna take care of you together and teach you that there's nothing wrong with being yourself, but it doesn't end so happily ever after. When you turned two, I caught him cheating on me in our car, then he told me that he was done with me and started a new life with his new girlfriend. So that's why only I'm here to be your guidance light when you're alone in the dark, then a few years later after you turned ten, he called me and told me that his girlfriend cheated on him, he told me that he was ready to take me back, but I knew his promise wasn't going to stick. So I said on the phone `Screw you!´."

That whole story made me both sorry and confused, "He made a promise to be there for me and love me for being myself, but he broke that promise. I however, will not allow broken promises in this house, so that's why I only kept my promise and told you I'd be there for you whenever you're alone, and love you for you. You will pass it on to your children one day and be just like me. Understand?", I nodded, she pulled me in for a hug and kissed me on the forehead.

"Alright, now that we've addressed the elephant in the room, I was thinking about plotting Arthur's murder."

"Mom, you can't murder a kid!"

"Why not? I'm an adult."

"Exactly, adults can't murder kids."

"Don't worry, hun. I'm joking." she laughed, she pulled me in for another hug, then giggled "Mostly.", I pulled away and started laughing. "Alright, fine. If I can't plan a murder, then how about a movie after dinner?"

"Now that's something I like."

After a while, I took my moms advice and started going out more. I stopped wearing hoods, and got to know more people, I even managed to meet the love of my life without wearing a mask that hides the real me. Arthur only started bullying me when we were alone in the dark after my mom verbally threatened him, so let this story take place in your life and take my moms advice. There's nothing wrong with being yourself.

THE END.
