Love, Divorce and Everything else
Chapter 27: Prepare for Battle

After leaving the hospital, Ryan went home and spoke to a few of his attorney friends and colleagues, and shared the cases and how he needs to proceed further. He then called Albert's lawyer and asked about the will and the total worth of the property. He then asked him about Albert's previous will and how many times the will was changed by Albert. The lawyer told him that Albert had changed his will 4 times in the last 35 years. First, he wanted his brother to have everything, then included his sister-in-law as well. When they had Jack, he added Jack as well with the major part of the property (50% to his brother and sister-in-law and 50% to Jack). But over 5 years ago, Albert had called him and asked to discard all 3 wills, destroy all copies of those wills, and prepare a document stating all wills created and signed before 2015 will be considered null and void. He said he did not trust Margaret and felt she might still press claims against his wish after his death, and created a new will under and her child will receive 50% share immediately after his death and the remaining 50% for her child's future when she turns 18. He feels that 50% will help Myra raise her child well and support her family, so she won't have to work anymore. The companies run on their own, so the money she earns from them can provide a great life. He was also very specific that the house where his brother and sister-in-law live goes to Myra, as does the business. Ryan: Oh, really? But you know what bothers me? Why would he change his mind and leave everything to Myra when he included all his family one by one? Did something happen? Lawyer: Well, Albert was upset with Jack, who was not working, nor was his father. Margaret was always trying to convince Albert to adopt Jack legally since he never married and had no children of his own. Margaret also made multiple attempts to convince Albert to transfer the house and business to Jack and his brother's name, at least the one he is running. She was quite pushy and didn't stop talking about it. That's why Albert decided to get his friend's daughter married to Jack. Being an only child, he and his wife would have inherited all the business from his father-in-law, and would keep Margaret off his back for some time. Albert knew that if he gave his business to his brother, Margaret, or even Jack, they would throw him out, so he kept the control in his hands. I had been his lawyer for 40 years, and we had been friends practically. It was sad to see my friend go through that. A few times, he was so stressed he felt like giving it all up and giving everything away to them, but I had to stop him. You know, 30 years ago, Albert found a woman he loved and wanted to get married to, but his brother and Margaret threatened the woman and she left. He also thought of giving away his property to charity; that's what he was planning to do. Finally, when Jack left his second wife as well, he understood something was wrong with him.Why did he choose Myra? He never discussed it with me. I tried to ask him, and he simply said she carries the next generation of our family. I even asked him to divide the inheritance equally among the 3 grandchildren, but he declined, stating that they are well taken care of. Ryan, how did he know about Myra's child? She never told anyone. Is there any way Emma can give up her share? The lawyer: I thought they all knew; Albert never told me how he knew. I just assumed they all knew. Ryan: Do you think Albert can hire private detectives to trace the child's existence? Lawyer: I don't know, Ryan. That is something that never came up, and we never discussed. But yes, Albert made a pretty airtight will.Emma being a child cannot give up her share, she only gets it when she is 18. Myra takes control of the business and gets her share instantly once the paperwork is signed, and she is the sole authority when it comes to any business or property. Ryamn: Hmmm, I have so many more questions than answers. Now, we need to keep these leeches away from Myra and Emma. No wonder why they want to take control of Emma. Through Emma, they control Myra and force her to get back with Jack. They control her and through her, control the entire business, bank accounts, and everything. Lawyer: Well, good luck with that, Ryan, and I hope you win this for them. If you need me to testify, you can call, and I will be happy to help. Thank you, dear friend, until next time.Ryan then sat down and studied the cases one at a time. He made a few more phone calls, trying to get more witnesses and more information from friends of Myra. He even called Jack's second ex-wife and spoke to her for a long time, asking why they got married, what led to the divorce, Why wouldn't she move on knowing that even though the marriage arranged with Jack was not possible? Why did she still agree with Margaret and wait for him to divorce his first wife? He asked her many, many questions, and she was happy to share all information. After a conversation that went on for over an hour and a half, Ryan was quite happy. He got good and solid information, and she even promised to share any details and also say the same things in court in Myra's favor. In the end, she said to Ryan, 'You seem like a nice guy, and Myra is lucky to have met you. Please convey my apology to Myra for disrupting her marriage. I was just influenced by Margaret and kind of didn't want to lose Jack to her. I agreed to support her evil plan that she had cooked up to hurt Myra. But you see, karma - what I did to her came back to me after all. You can't build your castle on shaky ground; it is due to fall. I am really sorry. But kind of happy she has found a great guy like you, so I guess that makes me feel slightly better.'Ryan thanked her for her support, ended the call, and went back to studying the case further.
