Lightning McQueen was feeling proud of himself. He had just won the Piston Cup for the fifth time in a row, and he was ready to celebrate with his friends at Radiator Springs. He drove to the town hall, where the mayor, Doc Hudson, had prepared a special ceremony for him. He parked next to his best friend, Mater, who was wearing a shiny new hat.
"Hey, buddy, you look great!" Lightning said.
"Thanks, McQueen. You too. Congratulations on your victory!" Mater said.
"Thanks, Mater. It was a tough race, but I managed to beat Chick Hicks by a hair. He was so mad, he almost crashed into me at the finish line."
"Yeah, I saw that. He's such a jerk. He doesn't deserve to be in the same league as you."
"Aw, shucks, Mater. You're too kind. But you know what? I don't care about him. I care about this." Lightning pointed to the golden trophy that was sitting on a pedestal behind him. "This is what I worked so hard for. This is what makes me happy."
"Me too, McQueen. Me too." Mater nodded.
