The Past We Left Behind - Chapter 1
With a suitcase in hand and a black backpack on his back, a frowning young man with short brown hair walked towards the bus stop, ready to leave Longonis forever and start a new life. Far from his hometown and everything that happened there.

Longonis was unusually calm and quiet that day. The streets were empty, and there was not a single living soul outside. The only thing that could be heard was the sound of the young man's black sneakers hitting the floor as they slowly walked down the sidewalk. One of the reasons why there was no one outside could be that it was almost 30 degrees Celsius outside. The people of Longonis do not really like the heat, so it is not difficult to conclude that they were probably hiding somewhere in their houses in the shade, with the ventilation on, and probably some ice cream or watermelon. Only Ethan was crazy enough to walk outside in this heat. Or maybe he wasn't the only one?

When he got close enough to the bus stop, he saw that someone was already sitting there on a bench. It was a young girl, one would say somewhere in her early 20s like Ethan. She had long, slightly curly brown-red hair, and she was wearing a blue skirt and a brown crop top. Ethan didn't know her, he'd never seen her before, so he assumed she was either new to town or not from there. When he took a few steps closer to her, the girl finally noticed him. She looked at him with her brown eyes and smiled kindly, but Ethan, completely uninterested and unmoved by it, moved closer and sat on the edge of the bench, away from the girl. The girl was looking at him and her face showed that she was hesitant to say anything, while Ethan was looking thoughtfully at the floor, avoiding eye contact with her. She finally plucked up her courage and said with a smile, "Looks like I'm not the only one whose mood is being ruined by this heat."

Ethan looked at her briefly and sneered, then turned his gaze to the road. He watched the cars go by and everything was quiet for a moment, then he suddenly spoke, "When's the bus coming?"

The girl looked taken aback that Ethan had finally said something, but quickly composed herself and replied, "It should be here any minute now."

"I hope so. I can't wait to get out of here." Ethan muttered darkly to himself.

"What?" The girl said in confusion. "I thought everyone loved this place. I mean, the sea, the coast, lots of tourist attractions. I heard this is a beautiful city."

“To me it’s not. For me this is a place of horror.”

The girl fell silent at Ethan's words.

"A place of horror? Such a wonderful place. No way." She thought to herself. She wanted to say it out loud, but she didn't. Instead, she held out her hand and introduced herself with a smile, "Abigail."
