Table Talk
I had purchased a table. A sturdy one too.
It didn’t matter to me that it wasn’t brand new, for so many you see are made wobbly and cheap.I went out of my way to find one that would keep. We had just bought a house, future bride and myself,I drove two hours away for a table and shelf.I had borrowed dad’s van and I got back inside and I settled myself for the long homeward ride.

I pulled onto the road and my hair stood on end when a voice in the back asked, “will you be my friend?” The voice that I heard was a deep grainy voice and it gave me the feeling I didn’t have a choice but to answer and listen to what it would say, so I said, “yes indeed. I will try anyway!”

I then glanced in the back and the big table sighed. There were minutes of silence before it replied, “I have lived many years and I’ve seen quite a lot I remember quite well the first time I was bought. A young man like yourself with his new beaming wife told the carpenter man to go bring me to life. Their eyes shown with delight when they saw me at last; it was love at first sight so they made the deal fast.

I was put on a truck and I went for a ride to big farmhouse kitchen where I would reside.
Oh the joys of that life how I love to recall, all the love and the happiness there that I saw. They had eight lovely babies. I watched as they grew and I knew that they liked me and needed me too. Every meal they would gather around me to eat. Conversations and laughter and kicking of feet, and they used me for schoolwork and laundry...
