As an 8th grade artist, I was intrigued by the relationship between the Earth’s sun and moon. The juxtaposition of the sun’s warm ambience and the moon’s cool, coruscating glow highlight their undeniable contrast yet complimentary roles in our solar system. This influenced the theme for my work, light versus darkness. In this artwork, the moon symbolizes darkness and the sun represents light. 

For my first photograph, I took an image of the moon. I went stargazing with my family on our trip to Oman. It was fascinating to see the sky through a unique perspective. I found the intricacy of our universe remarkable, how everything played a role. I placed the lens of my camera through the telescope lens and was able to capture a luminescent, clear photo of the moon. The stark moon against a muted background created a beautiful contrast.


For my second image, I captured a mesmerizing sunrise during a peaceful yoga session. I observed how the sun’s radiant warmth gave me an immediate sense of calmness. I pondered the connection it had to the moon and how, likewise to the sun, the moon also provided me with a sense of serenity. 

 The interconnectedness of the sun and moon convey that both light and dark are beautiful, even in their differences. In all, they both are magnificent wonders of our universe.
