Rani Padmini
बुझे द्वीप पश्चिमी जगत के
व्याप्त हुआ बर्बर अंधियारा।
किंतु तम की चीर कर छाती
चमका हिंदुस्तान हमारा।।
Above said lines were somewhere in his speech by the former Prime minister Mr Atal Bihari. It means when the whole world had fallen to barbarous Islam, our India was seen shining in the dark darkness with the heroic valor of Indian brave men. Indian women along with the men contributed equally in eliminating this dark darkness. From the beginning of humanity, the contribution of women towards the creation has been incomparable, Shakuntala, the mother of Emperor Bharata, who named our country, Kaushalya, the mother who gave birth to Lord Vishnu as Shri Ram to free the entire world from the atrocities of Ravana, mother Kaikeyi, whose image is too negative till date in the society, and will keep getting disrespect till the end of time just for the sake of mankind. In the initial forms, women have always increased the pride of their religion, society and nation. An exciting chapter of this series is associated with Chittor of Mewar of Rajputana (now called as Rajasthan). This story is about when Chittor was ruled by Rawal Ratan Singh and Delhi was being trampled by foreign robbers. At that time, Delhi was under the so-called rule of a characterless, dishonest, lustful and inferior person named Alauddin Khilji. Rani Padmavati, wife of Rawal Ratan Singh, was famous throughout the Aryavarta for her good conduct, piety, scripture as well as beauty. When Khilji came to know her and her beauty, he decided to travel to Chittor. Khilji attacked Chittor before the end of spring in 1303. But not a single soldier of the Khilji army could penetrate the fort even they were ten times more than Rajput soldiers. In an attempt to penetrate the fort, Khilji spent the summer season, but he only got Mewari dust!! Finally, he was troubled by the weather and the he created a fake friendship plan. And unarmed, alone, he came to the fort to meet Rawal, while returning back he invited Rawal to come to his military camp. Despite all the refusal from courtiers, Rawal went to his camp, from where Khilji forcefully took him to Delhi. He wrote a letter to Chittor, in which he said that if they wanted the protection of Rawal, then Rani Padmavati will have to come Delhi. But was it possible? After reading Khilji's letter, the Mewari heroes got blood boiled. They gave befitting reply to Khilji in which they kept two conditions, first, Rani Padmavati will not come alone, she will be accompanied by eight thousand other fellow queens. Second, Rani Padmavati will first meet Rawal and she will meet Khilji only after Rawal is released, Khilji, drunk on power, money and lust, accepted all the conditions with pleasure without considering. Eight thousand young Rajput soldiers, led by chief commander of Chittor Gora Singh Chauhan and vice commander Badal Singh Chauhan, rode in Delhi in disguise, on reaching Delhi, the chief commander first liberated Rawal and made him to left for Chittor. And with those eight thousand soldiers he himself started vanishing Khiljis army. Not a single one of those youngsters could survive, but for the Khiljis, that day was a day of "doom". Only eight thousand fighters destroyed an army of about one lakh. Khiljis soldiers caught Rawal on the way. The wounded and sick Rawal was killed on the spot by those soldiers so cruelly. But this news reached the fort at the right time. On receiving the sad news of Rawal, Rani Padmavati ordered to install and decorate the Jauhar Kund. There were about sixteen thousand Rajput queens in the whole fort. All of them, together with Rani Padmavati, made up themselves for the last time. A huge fre was ignited in Johar Kund. The flames were touching sky. The surrounding waters were also dried up by the tapas of Holy fire of Jauhar Kund, when the right time came, all those brave women jumped into the Kund. Khilji could never even see Rani Padmavati while his desire was to make her his "hoor". This was the biggest defeat of Khilji. Those Kshatranis, by incorporating themselves in the Jauhar Kund, further enhanced and strengthened their character, femininity, patriotism and purity. Rani Padmavati and all those queens that day defeated all the robbed terrorists along with Khilji. They all showed that the Rajput bracelet also has bravery and valor similar to the Rajput sword. They all women set an example of prime sacrifice for the sake of self respect, social status and ancestral culture. They all burnt themselves instead of giving up.
