They discovered we shifted into mermaid once we touched water,
They pretended that it was not a burden or a bother,

One of them snuck into our temple and stole our secret stone.
An evil human who was wicked to the bone.
Taking it for themselves and working alone.
The entire Atlantic sank before we could have known.

Sinking lower and lower as we savored the scar of betrayal.
Of how humans who we thought could help us prevail.
A once delicious union became tasteless and stale.
Forever in our minds of how we failed.

Once was enough to know who our
enemy was,
No more trust,
Water rushed,
as we hit bottom touching the sand of the sea.
Angry, Sadness and Dismay.
