sneak peek at my story

Gladdiyah was awoken abruptly with a sense of dread. She shivered as a waft of cold air filtered in. She opened her eyes and tried to examine the source of this sudden dread she felt. But upon opening her eyes, a series of new questions invaded her confused mind. Where was she? How did she get here? How long had she been out? What was the last thing she remembered?
Sudden panic began to set in as Gladdiyah realized she couldn’t recall a thing about her current presence in this unknown territory. In fact, the more she tried to summon any answers of her current whereabouts, the more confusion began to gnaw at her.
She decided to sit up and take note of this unfamiliar place. Maybe that could help her extinguish this sudden bout of amnesia. Looking around, she realized the visual scenery would be unlikely to give her any clues as to where she was or how she had gotten here.
This place was totally unfamiliar. It was dark, cold, and the air was damp. The walls were narrow and appeared to be made of stone. The only light filtering in came from a tiny crawl space to the left of her which was about 8 inches above the deplorable excuse of a bed that she had awoken in. Other than that and a partially crushed generic can of citrus soda that sat to the right of her, this room appeared to be totally desolate.
Gladdiyah couldn't make sense of her immediate surroundings but the more she looked around in search of an exit, the more intense this feeling of terror grew inside the pit of her stomach. As far as she could tell, the only exit in this place was this horrible, dimly lit looking crawlspace. With no other apparent options, she decided to try her luck at escaping through this tiny space.
She quickly pulled herself up off the makeshift bed and as she was rising to her feet, a surge of excessive energy coursed through her whole body and nearly swept her off her feet. Wow, this wasn’t just a sudden burst of energy that you’d typically get from a caffeine or sugar rush either. This was somehow different… She attempted to recall another time in her 24 years of existence that she had experienced this same type of energized feeling but she quickly realized she had never before witnessed anything like it. No words would suffice for describing what she had just felt. The only way she could even come remotely close to describing it was by comparing herself to a battery that had been just been fully charged. For a brief moment upon standing, she would almost say she felt as if she’d had superhuman speed, strength and a new energy that was supercharged…weird.
As she tried to direct her thoughts back to her current predicament, she stepped closer to the crawlspace and bent over to peer inside. The source of the light seemed to be coming from another room that this crawlspace led to. It appeared to be about 8 feet away. Good.. not too far to crawl, she thought. Gladdiyah was terribly claustrophobic. Upon recalling her lifelong fear of closed in spaces, a brief flashback was triggered that came and went in the blink of an eye.
“For Pete’s sake Emerson, can’t you move any faster? The girl is gonna wake up soon if we don’t hurry”, stammered a deep growl of a male’s voice.
She was moving... Laying still but being moved. What’s going on, she wondered as she flitted her eyes open. Someone was pulling her through a tunnel of some sort… on top of what appeared to be some sort of tarp. She probably would have been more frightened but she was fading in an out of consciousness. She felt extremely tired as though she had been drugged.
