Conflagration - Part 3
Darrius awoke to the thunder of giant stone feet battering the ground. The boulders of the creature's arms cradled him like a newborn. It wasn't very comfortable. His blood pooled and ran over the side of the beast's forearm. "Lana?", Darrius said barely lifting his head. His eyes refused to focus and he didn't have the energy to force them.
"Dee?! Oh my god, you're alive!", the stone giant's hoarse voice turned gleeful for a moment. "Don't worry I have a transport coming. You'll be okay.", Lana's voice completely returned to its feminine base. Darrius' head lay back against her stone arm and his dark eyes closed again. Another terrifying roar rang out above their heads as Darrius lost consciousness. Lana swung her enormous arm toward the sound but didn't connect with anything. Again the heavy boom of a dragon pierced the darkness. "Get away, dragon!", Lana yelled in her beastly voice. A blast of fire grazed her stoney side.
"We are Il-Kamin!", the dragon shouted back from above her head. "The Dvenin have you under their spell, Terran.", the dragon continued. The sun was starting to peak over the mountain tops creating the first hints of visibility. Lana could now see one dragon perched on a hilltop nearby and another flying around.
"I just want to leave!", Lana shouted back.
"Then leave our planet!", the dragon on the hilltop thundered out to her. Lana's pace quickened as she reached the unburned treeline. A final warning rang out, "You have until the end of the season! Evacuate now!", the dragon's smokey aged voice echoed. Lana didn't stop to take a look at the dragon above her but she did clearly see the hilltop dragon. He was sheer black with golden trimmed scales around his maw and above his eyes. He was actually a beautiful creature. Lana quaked her giant body through the shoulder height treetops. She was in a state of sheer terror but she clung to Darrius and kept running. She knew Xylonic was close and The Order was already prepared for Darrius' injuries. Some birds were starting to sing. The sun had illuminated enough of the forest now for her to calm slightly.
"Lana!", a musky voice echoed through the trees. It was Elder Valcor. She was safe. Lana's Eidenstone fell from the air and landed at the base of a tree in front of her. She only remembers passing Darrius' limp body off to the doctors before she collapsed.
