A Knight
The final ember of the fire
burns all the brightest
It stands alone in the black ash
burning as bright as possible
before fading into the back
just like all the rest.
The destruction the fire leaves
highlights its path on the hill.

A broken sword,
dragged across the ashes,
cleans a road
through the remnants of the town.
All that was left is now gone.

On tired legs,
the last living thing in the area,
a powerful person,
of silver and steel,
must weave their way through
the final pieces of their life,
for all else have been burnt.

A war,
when ended,
has a single victor.
They stand above the broken bodies,
gloating near the families of the dead,
while the rest of the world mourns.

They are a winner
in strength alone
despite what others say.

the truth is
they don't truly win either
there are no such
winners in a war.
For so much more is lost
rather than won.

If we follow the knight,
down this broken street,
we will find that
one day all is fixed,
all seems right.

The last blaze dies
and green overtakes black
so that nature reclaims all.
Nature always survives
to rebuild
even when we don't.
