Asteroid Hits Earth

"The asteroid is heading undeterred towards us. We're doomed," the newsreader quoted, her face ashen. Suddenly, like a train swerved off its rails, mayhem erupted, blowing off like landmines in a desert thronging with immigrants; the line that held the balance of life was thinning out- it was only a matter of time, time we did not have.
Then we realized that it wasn't only the asteroid ferociously heading down, life as it were was. The parks lost their thrills, grocery stores, shopping complexes, jewelry stores, boutiques with the most exquisite wears and wares stayed wide opened, unmanned, no one cared about the bills; stadiums were more quiet than cemeteries. The billionaire playboy wasn't, for the first time, waylaid for his autograph as he jostled in the company of people who were fleeing to where they had no idea.

Nothing else mattered- not the stacks of money hidden in the politician's basement or the quest to bag a degree or dreams of starting a family with a beautiful partner and lovely kids; the gold medalist didn't remember his trophies and the opening match he had later in the day...only one thing screamed in everyone's mind- the rich & poor, lender and borrower alike, employees and employers, parents & children... one pursuit brought people of great discrepancies upon a common platform - the drive to survive. Even the man whose neck was already in the noose upstairs had a change of heart. But there was just one problem- no one seemed to have the faintest idea how to survive

At first it was drowned in the eternal noise of the commotion, but soon like a scent borne upon the wings of the wind it drifted in with unsteady sounds, it was a song! "A song?!"
"Well I guess that's one way to go after all." A man scoffed.
But it wasn't the song of one resigned to a fatal fate, it was the melody oozing from a heart at peace, for a moment it sounded like symphony seeping from the heavenlies. It got louder and stronger, full of such power and conviction soon the numbers increased, the voices grew yet louder.
It was the most beautiful sound I've heard, not for the melody or just the lyrics but the hearts and lips from which they emanated - for once humanity came together for the realized that threat against earth was threat against everyone and that humanity wasn't black or white, educated or illiterate, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, or Buddhist...it's just one race - Human!

Then I saw it- in a circle with circumference I knew not its size- people on their knees, eyes closed sang. some had tears streaming down their face and a smile lit up them all. I couldn't help but join this now massive circle, and the words began to flow

"He's got the whole world, in His hands,
He's got the whole wide world, in His hands
He's got the whole world, in His hands
He's got the whole world in His hands"

I can't explain what I felt in that moment, but if there's a word, it'd be peace.

Just then-

My alarm jolted me out of sleep.
I hurried to make it in time to school.

Running down the stairs with a relief I couldn't explain, I called out "mum, I had the scariest dream ever, it-
I stopped at the living room to see everyone staring feverishly at the TV. I got just in time to hear "the asteroid is heading undeterred towards us. We're doomed."
