Our Last Dance 💃
I sat there in the visitors chair and saw her beautiful self sitting up. drawing the hospital room in a gown with a bald head and tubes all over her. But she looked as darling as ever. She looked at me.. so, you wanna see the nurse?! I chuckled and said yes of course. She said I did my best. I know I know his nose might look crooked. It looks beautiful Samantha! You have talent! My God! Oh shut up, I'm not that good. We both looked outside and it was raining a nasty storm. She put down the painting and looked at the window then me. Thanks for coming, Josh. I'm so lonely here and I'm losing my mind. It's ok babe. We're gonna fix you up. She put her hand up with her pinky showing. I said yes, pinky promise! We began doing a long secret handshake that ended in a kiss. Her lips were ice cold. Let me help with that! I kissed her over and over till she laughed and said I love you but you are an animal! I laughed with my hands in her lap. You are a character my love. And that's why you chose me? Yes Samantha, that's why I chose you. You're full of surprises! But I wouldn't miss this for the end of the world being here with you till they tell me I have to leave. The doctor called me that night as I was on the emergency list and told me the cancer has spread too far and it's terminal. She only has x amount of hours if not a day. I told him thank you for the call doctor. That morning I ran to the mall, got a dress, then bath and body works for makeup. I went to the tux shop. I told my mom to find songs on Spotify to dance to and make a playlist on my account. I was racing around town getting everything. I got to the hospital and ran upstairs with Starbucks and everything. I rushed to her room and she was laying there watching Netflix on her iPad. I said Samantha, get ready! I got you everything you need! She laughed and blushed. Joshua, what have you done?! She instantly got up and I helped her out of bed. I left the room and she slipped on the dress. I heard her singing and giggling as she was getting ready and opening her new makeup box from outside her door. I went into the guest bathroom in the hospital and put on my tux. I got back and said Ms. Miles may I have this before I finished my jaw dropped to the floor. Red lipstick and black eye blush with a nice red tight dress. She looked like a million dollars. A tear fell from my eye. My voice cracked when I said dance and finished the sentence. I reached for my phone and grabbed it. My fingers were trembling as I was trying to get to the playlist my mom made me. I pressed play and looked at her. It's time to dance. We danced through the whole playlist. There was headbanger songs there was fast pace and slow pace love song, perfect by Ed Sheeran to finish the night with her head on my chest. I looked at her and said I love you Samantha Miles she looked up at me and into my soul. She reached up on her tippy toes to give me a kiss and said I love you too Joshua Evans. She smiled and said I'm tired dear. Can you help me back in bed. I said it would be an honor. I tucked her in and said I'll see you in the morning my love. I reached over the bed put my hand on her cheek closed my eyes and went in for a time stopping kiss that took both of our breaths away. She opened her eyes after the kiss that seemed to have lasted forever and then some. She took her thumb and wiped off the cherry red lipstick on the corner of my lips. She said much better, winked and smiled with a wave goodnight. I turned around from that bed and tears started rolling down my face. I proceeded for the door and walked out and closed it. I got to my car and put my head on the steering wheel. I reached for my keys. But my phone is what came out. I held it and it started ringing. I jumped and dropped it. Oh no, oh no! I grabbed it, It was the hospital. The nurse. Said hello is this Mr.Evans? I said yes. She informed me that after I left she went to sleep with perfect vitals and then passed in her sleep. In Fact in the dress you got her. I said thank you the best I could And hung up. There I sat in my tux a broken soul. I gripped the steering wheel and looked at her passenger seat. All the beautiful memories. Rest in peace Samantha Miles.
