Sarah was reading a book. Beside her, Sophia was giving Sarah some company.

Sarah lived on rent in the house of Cathy Mark. She was a professor in a university. She could live in her parents' house also but her university was too away from there. Apparently, the petrol's charge in her car would cost more than the rent she was paying.
Due to construction issues, the payment of some teachers was stopped since 5 months. Sarah was one of them.

She was managing everything from 5 months in just $10, 000 and even out of them she had saved $4000 for rent. It was simple that she was facing financial distress in even her daily life. Before buying anything, she had to think thrice.

Knock…It was Mrs. Mark. She said “Sarah, why are you so ignorant about paying the rent since 3 months ? ” in a high voice. It was the 4th month and Sarah had to pay $8000 in total. She gave the saved $4000 to Mrs. Mark.

Cathy said “The rest $4, 140 ? ” “$140? For what ?” “$40 for electricity and $100 for late payment ” Sarah asked why she should overpay, but Mrs. Mark said “ I am not taking any interest, it is your indiscipline that you don't pay rent on time. $200 are less for your careless behavior ”

Sarah was feeling tormented but Cathy added “If you will not pay $4, 600 on time, I will kick you out of my house! DON'T TEST MY PATIENCE! ” Sarah was appalled. She was thinking what she should do when suddenly a message came on her phone. It was a message from the bank. It read “Dear customer, a transfer of $50, 000 has been carried in your...” It was from the university.

Sarah went to Mrs. Mark and said “Please take your money, and find a new renter ”

A few days ago, Olivia had sent Sarah some pictures of a vacant home. The house was only 60 meters from Olivia's home. She, along with Sophia, got shifted into the new house.

“Wait a minute... Is this house 100 years old?” asked Sarah to herself. The house was too unsanitary. It was decorated with lizards, cockroaches, moths, flies, mosquitoes and spiders with their webs. The tiles were washed with dust, it appeared.

Sarah took a picture of the home's condition and sent it to Olivia with a message "You suggested me a very clean house 😅"

Sarah was feeling weary as she was already tired from the journey and now she had to clean everything. Sophia couldn't do anything in this. All of the sudden, Olivia jumped out of nowhere. Sophia climbed up Olivia and started licking her. She said “Sophia loves me very much” Mrs. Clinton came smiling and said “Maybe because you look like her”

Olivia and her mother helped Sarah in cleaning the house. All of them divided chores and started cleaning. The house looked new but it was 9:30 p.m. now.


Mrs. Clinton told Sarah and Olivia that the owners had died 19 years ago. “Since then, 20 families have lived here. But, the unusual thing is that no one lived here for more than 1 month. ” Sarah and Olivia were surprised. She added “People spread rumors about this house as Henry and Harper Clive, the owners have died. ”

Sarah asked “So do the people say that this house has geister? ” Mrs. Clinton said “Yes. I informed you to check whether you have any issue with this, but I can not continue because Olivia is getting scared. ” Olivia was indeed scared, but she showed interest. She asked “What about the families who lived here? What did they say? ”

Mrs. Rose said “Some believe those families died or suddenly disappeared mysteriously and some locals say they ( the families) saw abnormal things in this house ” Olivia said “ If I knew this before, I would never suggest you this home to live in. ” Sarah said “No worries, I am not scared of, neither believe these things. But why do you Olivia? "

Mrs. Clinton explained “When Olivia was 6, we were once traveling to another city. Tired, we decided to stay somewhere. Fortunately, we found the hotel “ Traveller's Rest ” I found a place for parking our car. When we went inside, it was pitch black.”

“Suddenly, from nowhere, a women came to us. She was the reciptionist. She asked me “ What do you want ma'am? It's 9:45 p.m? ” I said “Can we get a room? We are traveling to the next city. It is very late.” The woman laughed and said “ You also appear to be a ghost” Olivia held my hand and rushed towards our car. ”

Sarah smiled and said “So all the problem was created from 'also'? ” “Yes. She was a wraith! ” whispered Olivia. Mrs. Clinton said “Maybe the lady had met a person earlier also who appeared to be a ghost.” Sarah laughed saying “Olivia was dump those days”.

“ 'Horrible and creepy' is not a subject to laugh at. What will you do when you will find a haunted basement in this house, dearest friend? ” said Olivia. Mrs. Clinton and Sarah exclaimed “What basement are you telling about? ” Olivia said “I have read most horror stories with a basement” Mrs. Rose and Sarah laughed.



“Oh no! It's 10:20 p.m.” exclaimed Sarah.
“ If you need, we can stay here with you" said Olivia. “ It's ok, thankyou Olivia ” said Sarah. Mrs. Clinton said “I can't leave you alone Sarah. At least Cathy lived downstairs before. Your parents are also not here. It's my responsibility to look after you. ” Sarah remembered the accident of her parents on St. John highway.

She said “ My parents had gone to a trip. A trip on which, I had denied to go with them. They said they will return soon. 4 years have passed, they didn't return. I am still waiting. Why are they testing my patience? ” Tears rolled down her face as Olivia came inside with her belongings.

Olivia had already decided to stay with Sarah. After some time everyone lay down. Mrs. Clinton asked for the payments. “I had called the daughter of the owners, Ms. Emma Clive.
She has said she is free, day after tomorrow. She will come here on that day to talk about the payments” said Ms. Graf.

It was around 12:05 a.m, when Sarah heard someone calling Olivia's name. She waked Mrs. Clinton up “Sorry to disturb you aunty, I heard Olivia's name being called" Mrs. Clinton said “Olivia has scared you also” But, after some time, both could hear it. They waked Olivia up. Olivia was terribly scared, when all of them saw a man-like figure coming closer in the dark.

Mrs. Clinton switched the lights on. Mr. Jackson was standing there. Mrs. Clinton said “You were supposed to come tomorrow, right? ” Mr. Jackson said he had got a 2 day holiday.
Sarah had saw him after 8 months.

He said “So you guys along with Sarah got shifted here? ” Olivia laughed and said “No, father, Sarah has got shifted here. We thought to give her some company. ” Mr. Clinton said “We should go to our house back, if Sarah is OK” Sarah said she was completely OK.

Mrs. Clinton asked “Who told you we are here? ” Mr. Jackson told “Sophia”. He added “As this home is only 60 meters from ours, when I was finding you all, Sophia directed me here. ” After that, all of them returned back after saying bye. Sophia also came back to Sarah and slept beside.


Sarah was alone. She had trouble sleeping as the thoughts of owners, basement, etc were roaming in her mind. However, she slept.

It was nearly 2:10, when she felt someone calling her name. The scary thoughts again started capturing her attention. The voice was very faint, so Sarah understood it was due to all this what happened. It was again trouble for her to sleep, but when she woke up, it was 5:30 a.m. Bright sunshine was coming from the window directly at her.

When she was going to another room, she saw something unusual. There was a rectangular line drawn on the wall. It was as big as a window. When Sarah tried to pull it, she got to know that it was a secret door. Inside it, there were stairs going towards a basement. She was surprised. She called Olivia. Sarah said “You were right Olivia. Here is a hidden basement also. ” Olivia was shocked herself. She arrived there with her parents.

The basement was huge. It was used as a storeroom by the families who lived here earlier. “This is a haunted basement” said Olivia. Everyone gave her an angry look. Sarah told them she heard her name being called at night. Olivia said “The voice was coming from this basement only... I know... I am telling you.. Be alert” Sarah said it was not real, it was because of Olivia's creepy sayings.

Sarah explained “Basement is a very good place to store items. There is nothing unusual that for making this look good, the door is hidden. The guests don't notice this. ”

The Clintons returned back.
Sarah cleaned the basement. She found many things useful for her. Chairs, brooms, tables, board, etc all were there. The pictures of the family members who lived here were also there. After cleaning everything, the basement was looking new. Sarah went to do other chores.

She prepared for her classes and went to the university. As this house was much closer to the university than the previous one, it was easier for Sarah to go and come back.

When she returned back, Mrs. Clinton invited her for dinner. Everyone talked and enjoyed their food. Sarah thanked everyone and came back. Today it was easier to sleep for Sarah but she was thinking about the coincidence that Olivia had earlier told about basement.


The next morning, at 5:30, Olivia was getting worried for Sarah. She informed her mother and went to meet Sarah. She opened the door from her spare key and went inside. There was no one in the house. She checked the bedroom also, nobody was there.

Olivia got more tensed and worried because if Sarah was out, how could be the door locked from inside? She called her name multiple times and at last she shouted “Sarah! Where are you my sister? ” She shouted so loudly that Sarah could hear it from 50 meters away.

Sarah came running to see what had happened. Olivia was relieved to see her with a bag of groceries. Olivia asked “How was the door locked from inside? And where did you find groceries so early? ”

Sarah said “ I went from the back door. Yesterday, our neighbor was going to market. I asked her to bring the items I needed, and told her that I will pay later. She gladly took the list and brought them for me. Today, I had to prepare food so I went to take those items. ”

They both were talking when suddenly the doorbell rang. Sarah kept the bag and went to open the door. It was Tim, Cathy's son. Olivia also knew him. He was standing still with tears in his eyes.

Sarah asked to him “ What happened Timmy? Do you need something? ”
“Mother had an accident. She was coming here to meet you. ” said Tim in a low voice. Sarah was dumbfounded. She was shocked inside out. She asked “Why!!? ” Tim said “You gave her $4, 200 instead of $4, 140. She was feeling guilty that why she had charged $100 extra. She was coming here to return the money” while tears fell down to his feet.

He kept the $300 in the hands of appalled Sarah and went back. Sarah called him to ask whether Cathy had a minor accident or a major one, but he didn't look back and kept going wiping his tears.

Sarah's eyes were filled with tears of guilt that she misunderstood the lady. Olivia asked “How did Mrs. Cathy know where you live? ”
“ I had once told her ” said Sarah. Olivia said “I think you should also go to university now or else you will be late”

They both were talking when Olivia's phone rang. “Am I talking to Dr. Olivia Clinton? ” Olivia said yes. “Ma'am please come to the city hospital as soon as possible, an major accident has happened today, the patient is serious”

Both Sarah and Olivia looked at each other. Sarah went to university while Olivia went to the hospital.


When Sarah was returning from the university, she saw a woman coming to the same direction. Sarah didn't identify her. While she was going inside, the woman called from behind “ Ms. Sarah, wait a minute. ” Sarah turned back. “ I am Emma Clive ” she said. Sarah smiled and invited her inside.

Sarah said “ Hello Ms. Emma. My best friend's mother had told me about you... ” Emma interrupted “ Mrs. Clinton? I know her ” Sarah nodded.
Emma continued “ What's the need to give introduction? Let's directly talk about the costs ” Sarah found her behavior weird, but said “ Mrs. Clinton had told me this house is very cheap. Is it so? ”
“ Yes. You have heard it right. It's only $6000 / year i.e, $500 per month. It's your choice you pay monthly or yearly. I prefer yearly payment as $100 will be off then ” said Emma with a smile.

“ I would like to pay monthly as I have to stay here for only 1 month. My parents' house is 45 km away from the university. I would need to buy a new car, as mine has got old to go to university from there. The other belongings are also there ” said Sarah.

Ms. Emma was not looking delighted after listening this. Before Sarah, whoever lived in this house dissappeared or what God knows. People payed for 1 year for the sake of saving $100 so, Emma earned a lot more profit. Then, Emma asked for advance payment. Sarah refused and said “ I will pay on 30th, Ms. Emma ”
Emma hid her anger and went and went back.

The reason for not paying in advance is that Sarah knew there was surely any problem because of which no body lived more than 1 month. Sarah's money would be wasted in this way. It was now 6:00 p.m. and Sarah went to see Cathy.

Cathy was in the situation of speaking but was badly injured. Cathy was tensed from the expenses. The total was $10,000. Sarah expressed her sorry and payed $500. Tim was staring straight into the eyes of Sarah. It made her feel like a criminal villain of a movie.

Days were going as usual. Olivia came daily to meet Sarah. Mrs. Clinton invited her for dinner every Sunday. She was living happily and was wondering what made others uncomfortable in this house.


On the 17th day, Sarah was reading a story at 9:20 p.m. After some time, she could smell some burning in the kitchen. When she went to see what happened, she remembered that she had kept bread in the toaster. When she returned back with her sandwich, she continued reading.

She was terribly horrified after turning the page. The whole page had red spots of fingerprints and it was written on the top “ You will surely die ” Sophia came and suddenly started barking at something.

Sarah stood up, picked Sophia up, and ran out with the leftover sandwich. She went to Olivia's house where Olivia was preparing for bed. No one was there besides her. Sarah calmed herself down and asked Olivia where was Mrs. Clinton. “ She has gone due to emergency case. Maybe she will return back at 12 or 1, so she asked me to sleep. ” said Olivia.

Sarah was not willing to tell anything to Olivia as she was alone, but when Olivia insisted to tell what happened, Sarah told her everything. Olivia was almost fainted by what she heard. She said “ How are you so calm then? ” Sarah said she was also horrified.

Sarah asked “ Olivia, what should I do now? ” “Don't worry. Sleep with me for today. We will see later what we've to do. ”

Both of them were scared so they kept talking to keep themselves busy. Sophia was hungry as she wasn't fed that night. Sarah could feel her cries. She gave Sophia the leftover sandwich. Sarah didn't want to take food from the kitchen without asking. Olivia was also asleep so she slept without eating anything.

When she woke up, it was 6:00 a.m. Sarah told Olivia “ If everything will be fine again, I will stay here but if it becomes more horrible, I will have to go... ” Sarah went back to her house even after Olivia stopped her.

When she picked the fallen book of hers, she saw there were neither fingerprints, nor any message. She thought maybe she was getting hallucinated from some days and disturbed Olivia for seriously nothing.

She ate the food made by her and fed Sophia also. She prepared everything for her university. Sarah wasn't feeling to leave Sophia alone, so she asked one of her neighbors to keep Sophia for some time as Olivia also had to go.


When Sarah returned back, she saw there was a letter on the doorstep. It was written by “ Unknown ” The last line of it was terrible. It was written “ It's your turn to die ”

Sarah called Olivia and told her about the letter. Olivia was quite after listening that line. She said “ What are you waiting for? Come here fast!! No.. no don't come here, I am coming there ”

Soon Olivia came there and read the letter. She said “ Hey, I think a human being is doing all this rubbish! ” “ Maybe ” said Sarah.
Olivia said “ Now don't behave like a protagonist in a horror movie and come with me to my house ” “ No need Olivia. Today I will sleep here only, but if I will not feel good, I will come to you tomorrow ” said Ms. Graf.

Olivia went back and asked Sarah to call her if needed. Sarah took Sophia back from the neighbor, fed her, and made food for herself. After continuing the story she was reading yesterday, she went to sleep.

Around 2:30 a.m, Sarah heard someone calling her name again. It was the same voice she heard on the first day. Now she was not that much scared. She switched her phone on and recorded the voice. Then, she normally slept again.

On the next day, after returning to home from the university, Sarah asked Olivia to come to her house on phone and made her hear the recording. Olivia said “ I think we should complain all this to police ” Sarah nodded and said “ Tomorrow is Saturday, university will be closed, so we'll go and complain ”

They were talking when Sarah saw a piece of paper laying down the table. A scary song was written on it —

“ Are you not scared of
me watching you?
Fear is a dangerous thing,
I am your new.

People often like to
hear horror stories,
I will not come in front
else your blood will freeze.

I don't break promises,
I am doing one,
You'll not return back,
to your home sweet-one ”


“ Now what is this? ” said Olivia. Sarah said “ The person is trying to scare us ” Olivia said “ But he/she couldn't ” Both of them laughed. “ Sarah today I want to sleep with you... I want to observe the whispers ” said Olivia. Sarah nodded.


As they had expected, nearly 2:00, when they were asleep, Olivia woke up and heard hers and Sarah's name being called alternatively. She woke up Sarah and they matched the voice in the recording and this whisper. They were exactly same.

The next day, both of them went to the police station and reported the problem. Untill the day police caught the person, Olivia, Sarah and Mrs. Clinton slept together.

It was 10:30 p.m, there was a knock on the door. Sarah opened the door and was surprised to find the police along with a man. One of them told “ He is Robin. We caught him by the fingerprints ( on the papers and storybook ).

He wanted to live in this house instead of his small one but the prices were not affordable. He was scaring all the families earlier and you so that the rate of this house keeps decreasing and later on he could buy it. ”

Both Sarah and Olivia were staring at him. Sarah had many questions interrupting her work from so many days. She firstly asked “ When did you leave here an letter and a song? ”

Robin said “ I don't live very far from this house. I always kept an eye on this. When I saw you going to a neighbor's house, I went inside from the backdoor as it was opened and I opened one of the windows secretly in the living room, through which I could come anytime and throw various things to scare you.

That day when you went in the kitchen, I tried very hard to come inside through the window and wrote scary messages on your book so that you leave as soon as possible. ”

“ What is the use of such smartness for dump things? ” said Olivia. Sarah said “ That means we were scared from so many days without any reason ” in a low voice. Mrs. Clinton came at the moment who knew nothing about all this. Olivia said “ We will narrate you the story later, cause you are late mother ”

The police said “ Please ask your all questions quickly, we're getting really late ”

Sarah then asked “ How did you setup the voice that whispers at night... nearly 2:00? ” Now this question's answer was something that both Mrs. Clinton and Oliva wanted to know.

Firstly, Robin got confused, but then he said “ I can't understand, what voice are you talking about? I didn't setup any whisper or something ”

A chill ran down the nerves of Sarah while the phone fell off from the hands of Olivia after hearing this.
