DO YOU WANT TO LIVE BECAUSE YOU ARE AFRAID TO DIE?
Pondering on this question and I realized that it is one of the most important questions this generation must answer and consider. Most people especially the young in this generation do not even know the reason why they are alive or why they want to live. Away from religious facts and thesis, why do we really want to live or better put, 'why are we alive'. To answer this question, some things are to be considered which includes purpose, ambition, passion, etc.
Of all these factors, I consider purpose as the most important. What is your purpose on earth? Why do you want to live? Do you want to live because you're afraid of death forgetting that it is inevitable? What do you wish to achieve during your stay on earth? Are you living a life that you can boast of? All of these and more.
Now, let's dive into the main subject. Firstly, we all need to acknowledge the fact that nothing lasts forever. That position you're occupying now, the life you're living, the respect you earn, amongst other things were enjoyed by some people previously. Some of them have been long forgotten while some names are etched in fresh memories and continue to blossom like they never left.
Purpose can be described as a sense of direction or motivation in life. It's about finding something that gives our lives meaning and makes us feel like we're making a difference.Purpose is that necessary ingredient in life that keeps you going and makes you aware of your actions and inactions. It is how you've decided to live your life and leave and impart after your departure. Imagine a vehicle going on a journey without a particular destination, it is rational to state that sooner or later, the vehicle may derail and perish in it's journey. This can be likened to a life without a defined purpose because you're not aware of what you do, you just live life in the usual way.
When you are alive, live the moment and enjoy every bit of it.The fact that we chase our dreams blindly without living life is pathetic. I'm not saying you should not chase your dreams, no, far from that, but live while chasing those dreams so you can be proud of the life you lived. At least you'll have sweet and promising memories to fall back to incase of the occurrence of unforseen circumstances or when you no longer have time by your side. Many spend all their life in school, chasing grades while forgetting to discover their purpose and meet new people. I mean, good grades are quite good but like you said, live while at it, else those grades become useless when you have no defined journey or when you live all by yourself shutting people out of your life.
Recently, I read Paul Kalanithi's book titled 'WHEN BREATHE BECOMES AIR' and I was mesmerized by the type of life he lived. The book portrays the life of a neurosurgeon, the man had all his life planned out by him but unfortunately, he watched all his plans and dreams vanish right in front of his eyes. A minute,he was a doctor someone the patients look up to to save their lives and another minute, he was a patient who needs to be saved from the dreadful claws of cancer. Dr. Kalanithi grapples with the question of finding purpose and meaning in life, particularly when facing a limited time frame. He reflects on the significance of his work as a neurosurgeon and searches for a deeper understanding of what truly matters in life.
To find purpose in our lives, we need to start by taking cognizance of our values and passions. What are the things that are important to us? What activities bring us joy and fulfillment? By identifying our values and passions, we can start to see where our purpose lie and then begin to set goals and take steps towards living a purposeful life.
Living a purposeful life is important for many reasons. First, it can improve our mental and physical health because when you do what you love, it makes you less likely to experience depression or anxiety. Purpose can also give us a sense of meaning and fulfillment, which can improve our overall happiness and grant utmost satisfaction with life. When we feel like we're contributing to something bigger than ourselves, it give us a sense of pride, responsibility and accomplishment.
So, to sum up, a purposeful life is not just about checking off boxes of achievements and successes and achieving goals. It's about finding meaning and satisfaction in the journey of our lives. It's about waking up each day with a sense of excitement and passion for what lies ahead. It's about enjoying every moment and living with intention and gratitude. It's about finding fulfillment in the little things, and appreciating the beauty and variety of life.
REMEMBER, PURPOSE IS NOT A DESTINATION BUT A JOURNEY TO A FULFILLED AND MEANINGFUL LIFE EVEN AFTER DEATH AND IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO START LIVING A PURPOSEFUL LIFE.
