Bloody winter. part 20
(Disclaimer: Tigreb perspective)

"What the hell was going on? What should I do now? I can't let him hurt Max, especially knowing that in a way, I can stop it. " I felt hot tears on my cheeks and a profound pain in my chest.

"Oh come on, darling, don't be like this. You will live a luxurious life here. Why are you worried? You know it is fine if you don't want. I'm sure Max will accept a bullet instead of losing you. I'm sure of it, and I'm not trying to frame you. So let's do that then if it makes you so weak. " Kale said, turning for the door.

"No, don't!" My chest... I was ready to faint, but those words, even in tears, dared to touch the air. Kale turned around again facing me.
"I will do it! I will marry you; just don't hurt him! "
"Very good then. Since you asked for it, I'll make your wish come true. ..Go to the bathroom and put some makeup on. You must look perfect later." he said, giving me a small bag.

I went to the bathroom. I saw myself in the mirror. My eyes were red, and my breath rough. I looked a disaster. With a trembling hand, I put on some makeup. As the lipstick slid smoothly on my lips, I remembered that kiss. I was holding back my tears and trying to normalize my breath, but it was too hard. I remembered his face from before when Max accepted to apologize. When he went to his knees before Kale. All of that was the only thing that was giving me strength. I finished my makeup. It seemed as if I looked a little better, but just a stare at my eyes, and everyone would know.

Looking at myself like that, I took off the necklace. I saw it desperately as my hand was closing. I held it so hard and didn't want to let go, but I knew that that promise was the last for us to hold.

Getting out, Kale saw me and gave a little smile. "You look much better now! " he said.
We walked back to the living room. I saw Max from afar, and I didn't dare to raise my eyes to face him. I kept my head down.

"Son, what is happening here? I'm a little confused. " Kale's father asked.
"Father, I have wonderful news. Miss H. accepted to become my wife. " Kale said.
I raised my head. I stared at Max. The only thing I was trying to do was to escape his gaze, but I failed. I pinched myself a little. I could feel my energy running out as I was pretending everything was fine, but still, I never showed a sign of weakness. I couldn't. I was fighting at that moment. I was fighting a war, hoping that no one noticed.
