A few days had gone by, and I routinely dropped by the house to check up on the best lead we had. Every day, she was there, without fail. But one day, gone.
And not just for that time, or day, but period. She never showed up again. Instead, it was a young man dressed in plaid and a Jean jacket, which was quite out of place for this area.
I asked him several questions, particularly why he was here and if he knew her whereabouts.
He always said no, and little else. I instructed him, since he had no business there, he needed to vacate. In the end, I was forced to serve an eviction notice to get him to leave. When he was served, there was a notable sigh. As he walked away, I swear that I but blinked, and he disappeared into thin air.
And would you believe, the young woman was back, screaming at the top of her voice.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY TO MY BROTHER?!"
"What?!" I exclaimed, startled.
"You ran him off, you ANIMAL!" And then she ran at me. I was about to draw on her when Lissa appeared from behind a nearby car and fired a warning shot into the air.
