The Wise Man's Speech
Once there was a famous wise man living in a village. The leader of the village asked him if he could give speech to the people about spiritual enlightenment. The wise man agreed and the villagers gathered to listen to him.

He said, "Do you know the truth?"

The villagers were confused, but they replied, "No".

The man said, "Then seek it yourself. I will not waste my time giving speech to the people who don't know the truth." Then he left.

The villagers panicked, thinking that they had done something wrong. They went to their leader to ask the wise man to give a speech again.

The wise man agreed for the second time. He went in front of the people and asked, "Do you know the truth?"

The villagers replied, "Yes".

"What is it?" asked the man.

The people could not answer, so the wise man left.

The people went to their leader once again to ask the wise man to give his speech. For the third time, the wise man agreed.

He said, "Do you know the truth?"

No one replied, but one answer came, "how can we know?"

"Have you known yourselves?" the man asked.

"No," said the villagers.

"Then," said the wise man, "How can you know the truth without knowing yourselves first? The quest for the truth requires detachment from the false self. You asked me to give speech about spiritual enlightenment. If I told you the truth about it, you would lose your soul."

You see, intellectual knowledge is easy to attain. But the spiritual truths can be twisted if the soul is not ready for them. One must go beyond the man-made titles and labels in order to see the bigger picture.
