Truth be Told: Part 1
Cameron Hefner is an almost ordinary girl. She lives in a small town in Alabama with her family, has trouble with her grades in highschool, is dating a boy she met in art class, and spends most of her free time drawing.

Just looking at her, you wouldn't think there was anything special about Cam. She looks perfectly "normal". With straight, brown hair and eyes, a short curvy figure, and glasses, she appears to be an average ninth grader, but contrary to peoples thoughts, she isn't completely ordinary. Cam has a power. A power she likes to call "The Lie Detector".

Cam walks home from school one day, her best friend Carter beside her. The two are chatting and laughing, and seem to be having a good time. They've been friends since grade school and are close, inseparable some people like to say.

Cam only tells certain people about her "Lie Detector", a power she found out about early in her childhood. As far back as Cam can remember, she has always had the power to tell if someone was lying, or telling the truth. If a person is telling the truth, a loud "ding", like the ringing of a call bell, sounds in her head. If they are lying, nothing happens. No "ding".

Carter was one of the few people who knew about this, and had to be extra careful to always tell the truth. Sometimes it made it hard to be friends with Cam, but everyone tells lies, and Cam knew that. She sometimes had to let things slide that really hurt her, just to keep her ability under wraps.

On this particular day, while the two are walking home, Carter suddenly stops Cam in the middle of a sentence.

"Oh! Cam! I forgot to tell you!" he says excitedly.

"What?" Cam replies, seeing exileration light up her friends face.

"So, you know Sophia right?" he asks, his cheeks beginning to redden. Of course Cam knew who Sophia was, Carter's crush since the third grade. He had asked her out a few times, but always got the same answer, No. Recently though, Cam had managed to talk to Sophia, and learned that she actually really liked Carter. Being Carter's best friend, Cam had decided to put a few words in for him, and eventually convinced Sophia to ask him out. Cam suddenly realizes where this conversation is going, and smiles, nodding at Carter's question.

"Of course I know who she is! Why? what happened?" She replies excitedly. Carter grins and stares down at his shoes.

"Weeeelllll, she finally asked me out today!"

Ding.

Cam smiles, grabbing Carter's shoulder and shaking him playfully.

"Carter! That's awesome!" She says, and Carter's smile widens.

"Thanks Cam," he says happily, and The two continue walking.

"Actually," Cam says after a moment, "I might have had something to do with Sophia asking you out."

Carter's head snaps up in surprise. He stares at Cam.

"What do you mean?" he says. Cam smiles.

"Well, she happened to tell me the other day that she liked you, and I decided to put in a few words for you. When she heard how great you are, she told me she thought she might ask you out, and she did! I'm so happy for you, Carter!"

"Cam!" Carter exclaims, shoving her playfully and laughing, "You're the best!"

Ding.

She beams, happy to help.

"I can't believe you talked to her! I would have been so mad if you had screwed it up, but of course you were great. You're too good Cam!"

Ding.

"Hey what can I say?" Cam says sarcastically, "I am pretty great aren't I?"

The two laugh.

"I bet you would have killed me if I had screwed it up. Remember that one time I put ketchup in your drink when you weren't looking? You got so pissed!" Cam says. Carter laughs.

"Yah. I did get mad. That was disgusting!"

Ding.

"and remember the time you and Alex pranked me into thinking I had lost my phone?" Carter says. Cam laughs again and nods.

"Yes! Your face was priceless! You were so angry!"

Ding.

"Oh Cam," Carter says gasping for breath, "one of these days I swear I'm going to kill you!"

Ding.

Cam stops dead in her tracks. She stares at Carter, her face suddenly pale. Carter looks back at her, confused.

"What?" he asks.

"Is that true?" Cam says slowly. Carter stares at her, still not understanding.

"What?"

"You said, someday I swear I will kill you. Is that true?"

Realization floods Carter's face. His eyes widen.

"Of course not," he says.

No ding.
