CHAPTER ONE.

Diane sighs beautifully at the sight of her newly created work. She has just finished working on a proposal ring for one of her big clients who had ordered for 15 carats weight of diamond made for his soon to be wife. After working day and night for a week straight, the result yielded a wonderful turnout. Its beauty radiates everywhere, and shines brightly.

…. "Hhuu..what a work!".

Diane said to herself. She has been working since morning in her home office to carve out the last piece, and only until 9 o'clock in the evening, she got everything fixed. All she has to do now is call the soon to be husband to now take the next step.

To ease the stress of work, she opened a can of beer and enjoyed the night view from her apartment in Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. Only the Rich of the Rich could afford living in those expensive outlets, and sure Diane didn't disappoint. She has made her Fortune from jewelry making, her clients are top notch of the society and they love living big, and so does she. At age twenty eight, one can say that Diane is sure living the life others dreamt of, she lives in an expensive furnished apartment, drives a good car, and gets to hang around wealthy people. She is a true living slay queen, but kept it all to herself. Diane likes living quietly, and loves enjoying her own company. She is not the type to flash her wealth on social media, nor is she the type to spend money on expensive bottles if she goes to a club. Infact, she doesn't need to spend money on drinks, for there are men willing to buy it for her. Diane is wealthy and also very beautiful. Dark skin beauty giving Beyonce a run for her money. Her body is naturally curated by God, unlike those who spend millions trying to look like a Kardashian.

Diane gazes dearly at the sky, she gets mesmerized by the stars in the sky. The stars shines brightly, even more brightly than the expensive ring she had carved.

…. "Those stars shine regardless of the darkness, yet no one would appreciate them, but they prefer to spend millions in buying rings that only shine when they make contact with the sun. We sure can never understand ourselves".

Diane said out loud to herself. Even as a jewelry maker, she still finds it weird that people will do anything for the ring on their fingers. Some women are ready to kill for it, while some men are slaving away to buy it. Unlike Diane who doesn't even like any jewelry on her, she is just a plain Jane, and most of her friends and workmates used that to tease her. A jewelry maker doesn't like wearing one, that's so new!

Disturbed by her thought, Diane decided to take her walk out. She opens her front door, and steps into her verandah, there she could see the stars clearly. She closes her eyes to feel the breeze of the night but gets disturbed by her handsome neighbor who won't leave her alone in peace.

…... "Hi! Neighbor. I see you are out today, have you been working all week?"

Desmond questioned. He has a thing for Diane, but Diane doesn't give him a chance to free himself around her. All Diane does is to give him a cold shoulder, and shut the door on him.

…. "I just came here to enjoy the night breeze, can you please not talk to me?"

Diane said irritatedly. She loves keeping to herself, and never for once gives any guy a chance to come closer. She never really had a proper boyfriend, but she is known for her nightstands. She is a queen, and gives out bad girl vibes.

….. "Why can't you just at least say hi to me whenever I greet you, I don't mean any harm!".

Desmond said confidently. He is the type of guy no woman would resist, in fact most of Diane's friends gush over at the sight of Desmond. They all wondered why their friend was not into him.

…. 'My my greeting will take you to places?'

Diane responded coldly. Although she can't deny how handsome Desmond is, she doesn't like the fact that he is such a busybody, always in her business.

….. "You never know it might take you and I to places."

Desmond said flirting with her. He fell for Diane at the first sight, and from the day he has been on her case, hoping that one day she would give him a chance.

….. "Why don't you take the whole sky to yourself, you can also have the stars to yourself, but not me tonight. I don't have your time tonight".

Diane said as she walked back into her living room. She has had enough of her hot neighbor, and if she stays there one minute, she might really punch him in the face.

….. "So that means we can do this another night?".

Desmond shouts. He loves teasing Diane at the slightest opportunity, and it is more fun than going on a date with her.

…. "What a load of crap! I need to start seeking for another place, this guy really pisses me off. I can't stand him!"

Diane said while holding her face in her hands. If Desmond is not teasing her, he is out there passing fake rumors of her to the neighbors.

…. "Oh shit! I can't really stand him!".

Diane concluded.

She reaches out for another bottle of beer to calm her nerves down, then settles on her couch to watch a late night TV show. She enjoyed the show for a while until her phone rang, making her scream in silence.

…. "What? Someone ordered a blue Diamond?"

Diane said on the phone. Her assistant called to give her the good news and bad news. It's good news because making jewelry out of blue diamonds is her dream come true, but bad news because it will be difficult to buy a blue diamond.

….. "But we don't have blue diamonds, not even in Nigeria. What should we do? Even if we order it will take years to get here. It's very rare to find."

Diane complained.

….. "Actually there is only one dealer that has what we need, and the person is the one you hated the most."

Her assistant complained.

…. "Who?"

….. "Mrs Maria Effiong. Your mother!'
