Nothing made sense anymore.
Sanju sank down on the sofa, holding his head with a heaving chest and a throat threatening to expand till he could no longer hold his tears.
Thirty-two days, seventeen hours, and forty minutes to be exact. That's how long his wife Riha had been away from him. Gone. Lost somewhere.
He completely ignored Aksha's mother and Officer Neeraj who also turned out to be her father, sitting across him in his living room.
The letter laid on the table with Aksha's bracelet on top of it.
He noticed Neeraj glancing at his ex-wife who, placidly looked back at him with a dry expression, giving away nothing. He quickly brought his eyes back to the letter and Sanju sighed. He didn't have time for all this.

"Let me clear it again," He began, talking mostly to himself.
"Aksha was heartbroken because you two divorced and fell into depression after somebody tried to frame her for leaking question papers. Later, I hear she has committed suicide but it wasn't true. She disappeared a month ago and so did Riha," he grabbed his head again, as maniacal laughter escapes from him, "As if that wasn't enough you-" he points to Neeraj who looked at the floor, "-you call me two days ago and show me a dead body, saying it might be Riha. You knew I would recognize Aksha's body. You stood pretending there knowing it wasn't your daughter because somebody blackmailed you! How dare you!" Sanju bursts with anger and Aksha's mother sniffles, holding the edge of her drape to her mouth.
Sanju exhaled, "As much I want to save Aksha, I need my wife back. Look, I will get you your daughter back too. Just help me. Help me get my wife back." He implored to Officer Neeraj who was red with shame.
"Tell me all the details, please." He insisted.

Officer Neeraj cleared his throat and brushed his hair back with his fingers.

"What kind of a man are you!" Aksha's mother shrieked abruptly, "You destroyed my life first and now you won't even spare your daughter?" She stood up and snatched the cellphone from my hand and shoved it on Neeraj's face, "Our daughter is dying! Whoever it is, that person is killing her! This man will lose her wife. Open your mouth now, Else I will kill you right here and then kill myself!"

Sanju was startled with her reaction and shifted back a little. Her mother reminded him of goddess Kali, her hair messy and unruly, eyes widened and red with rage or resentment towards her husband, freaking him out.
But he wasn't the only one.
He watched Neeraj and he could swear life left his body for a second. His face had turned pale and sweat formed on his forehead.
"ALRIGHT! I will tell you everything!" Neeraj exclaimed, almost frightened.
Aksha's mother sat back and glared at him with a predator's gaze.
"I was in debt." He confessed, gulping.
"I gambled away most of the money..." He continued and his ex-wife's expression morphed from resentment to pure hatred.
"I tried to earn money but I couldn't! Mirzo company has very strict policies. I owed them so much. They threatened if I didn't return the money, they would kill you and Aksha." His voice began to break, "I promise, I tried everything. I kept on receiving the death threats every day until one day I got a message that they will forgive all the debt if I do what they say!"
"They told me to marry the director's daughter and I did. I got the money for it too. I paid the other debts but they wanted to use me more. That witch is involved with them! They want half of the shares. The sale of new products spiked the rate of shares and they wanted to sell half of them now. You and your wife didn't want to split that much amount," he looked at Sanju who was lost. Neeraj took a gulp of water, "I was told to blackmail Riha after I got my hands on the information and they told me to call her in the abandoned building in the city borders,"
"I did all of those things but I didn't know they planned to kidnap her. Later, I found out that they were blackmailing my Aksha too. That day in the mortuary when I showed you that body, I was broken. I didn't want to do it anymore. I told them to kill me instead." Neeraj tried to stifle his sobs but failed miserably. With quivering lips, he proceeded, "I told my new wife that I wanted a divorce. She didn't say anything and left but sent some men this morning. They tied me up so I couldn't go to the police station. I am sure by now, they know I have escaped. That's why they are going to kill Aksha!" He cried out, probably imagining the death of his daughter and fell to Aksha's mother's feet, begging for forgiveness.
The lady sat still like a statue and then slowly turned her gaze towards me.
"Save my daughter. I beg you." She pleaded and before I could respond I received another message.
All three of us stared at the cellphone and I opened it to see that a location has been sent to me.
The green walls of the room seemed to zoom in on me as I saw Aksha crying as somebody tightened the rope around her neck. They teased her, telling her how they would end her. But what made my heart lurch out of my throat was a glimpse of Riha in the background and a timer which counted down to thirty minutes.
I checked the location and it showed address to some newly constructed apartments near our office building.
Most of the employees lived nearby in that area on rent.
My body jolted out of shock and I jumped up, rushing towards my bedroom.
Both the parents screamed watching the video and Neeraj suddenly began dialing some numbers to the police station.
Reaching my bedroom, I hurriedly open my closet to take out the gun which I had bought after Riha disappeared. I had planned to kill whoever harmed her and I had a feeling it was going to be used soon.
Suddenly, a strong fragrance hit me.
I stepped back and noticed that some of my drawers were hanging open.
I never used an air freshener in my room but I could familiarize myself with the scent. It was a women's cologne.
All the rush of emotions and lack of time had left me confused but then it came to my mind.
Mansi, my personal assistant wears that cologne sometimes.
Was she perhaps here? She could possibly be! I leave a spare key to my house in my drawer at the office and she knew it! Suddenly, I remembered her crying face, gazing at me with longing from the last time I saw her... Could Mansi be involved in this?

Is Mansi involved or not? Will Sanju be able to save his wife and Aksha from the unknown person? Why is the director's daughter involved in this?

Stay tuned!
