Halloween
In the shade of the earth
We breath the life
Of the passing of season
Limp leaves hang as wind chimes
But silent as the air seems to
Hesitate to exhale
Or pause to inhale
We look into the dim world
Graced by a passing moon
A chariot of hope that the sun will return
But the returning sun shows
The naked, stark and cold earth
Leaning into stasis
Here the wonder returns
Though we've seen it with our own eyes
We feel the shadows walk
Where we only know the trees and grass stand
But in the dark as the withering of summer threatens to encompass this earth
We spirits who walk in bodies
Contemplate those that walk without
Darkling figures in the shade of trees
That do not appear
But are felt in the yawning quiet
To the heave and rustle of the leaves
The light of the world seems to have gone out for a moment
But the spirits still walk
For you are the light of the world
in you
spring returns
