DEFYING GRAVITY
THE SCRIPTURES IN STORIES
DEFYING GRAVITY
‘Que sera sera… whatever… be will…’ Phew.
I could hear my worry therapy whispering back to me as I sang ‘‘I am not gonna work this time
around’.
I turned to lean on one of the ship’s posts and everything that happened that day flashed through
my mind.
‘How can a man feed so many people with just five loaves of bread and two fishes’. I heard
someone grumble behind me and then I realised I had actually spoken out. I seemed to have
forgotten that not everyone on this boat supports that it was a miracle and not some sort of trick to
fool them.
Which is why Rabbi is not even on the ship with us. Well, my seniors said he asked them to leave but
I could sense some insincerity in their leaving the man alone. If only I had not overfed and gone to
the bush to empty my bowels, I would have known the truth.
I turned to the others who seemed to be discussing about other things
‘What do you think about the….’ I could see they all started closing their eyes as if their batteries
went off at the same time. Then someone said ‘let Rabbi’s last born speak’.
They all laughed while still closing their eyes and pretending to be asleep.
I consoled myself by concluding that they were all having the same funny dreams.
Suddenly, the boat shook and sea water splashed into the deck. The winds came strong on us and
we lost control of the boat.
We were all sore scared.
‘Not this time again’- Senior peter said.
‘why did you not wait for him’ another grumbled
‘now he’s punishing us’
Then a scream came from behind ‘Thomas had frozen’ we followed the direction his index finger was
pointing and behind us was somethi .. no! someone walking on the sea. A…
GHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST- That was me getting petrified along with Thomas and the others.
Time seemed to stop. I could touch the sound of my heart.
‘It is I; be not afraid’
‘RABBI!! I screamed at the same time saying to the others including the seniors as Rabbi joined the
boat.
‘Don’t believe this one and you’re not worth being called a Human’ (I said that in my head so no one
heard it except me).
