More than it seems
#WritcoStoryPrompt61
I've always been afraid to enter the basement chambers ever since I was a child. Sleeping just across from the room that gives me nightmares and tries to persuade my entry was even more terrifying.

I believe that they are more than three people living in this house because our groceries would always go missing and my clothing would either be shredded or gone. I would always hear hisses from the room, like a reptilian about to attack it's pretty.

It always sounded like my name being whispered by a thousand dying people. It often had me curling in on my smell on my queen-sized bed and wishing it away.

What would scare me the most was whenever I would hear it a burning sensation would commence in my Verdant eyes and whatever I looked at would automatically turn to stone.

I would never tell my mother about this, especially when I'm slacking from my meds but I swear there is more to this than it seems.

I am the odd one out of this family, I dont even look anything like them at all, my eyes would shine brighter than an emerald in direct sunlight, while my mom, dad, and brother all had pale grey eyes.

My ebony skin had multiple beauty marks that took the shape of scales which contrasted with their chocolate ones and my long thick black hair looked like a Raven's while theirs was a warm chestnut.

I always feel like I dont belong but my instincts keep pointing me towards the basement door for answers and today shall be the day that I head its calls.

I slowly turn the nob of my door looking directly at the black door that led to my destination. Creeping across the little passage I finally made it.

I opened the door to be welcomed by a dark room, the only light illuminating it was the dangling yellow one in the middle of the room.

Loud hissing rushed through my ears in voluminous waves stilling me in my spot. My feet wobbled on down the creek stairs slowly descending into my doom. My ears rang as the hisses became louder. My eyes watered at the burning sensation that ignited from them.

"Oh no, It's happening again." I thought. I closed my eyes immediately struggling not to look at anything but the overwhelming darkness and the growing hissing ripped them open. My verdant's looked around the room with fear causing everything that I looked at to slowly turn to stone.

Suddenly, I could feel eyes burning into my backside and I immediately looked around only for a boisterous scream to ripple from my throat. There behind me, stood a dark male that towered my body with ease, his eyes were a bright emerald that had a long black slit in the middle like a wild snake's. This was confirmed by the ebony male's lower half where a long green snake's tail substituted his hand legs.

His lengthy raven-colored hair floated in the non-existent wind and his reptilian tongue hissed at me returning my burning sensation. "W-Who are you?" I quickly covered my eyes to prevent anything else from turning into stone.

The half-man half-snake straightened further, reaching over 8ft before speaking. "You are in grave danger, my child." His statement had me taking a second look at his features, he is calm and relaxed and his words only seemed to speak the truth. "How so?"

"Thossse people that you call your family are anything but." My eyes widened at the revelation, I couldn't believe it. It explained so much, why I don't look anything like them or enjoyed the same things they did. I always felt different and now I have an answer. "R-Really? How do I know that you aren't lying to me?"

The man's narrowed slits opened to ovals and a dark green mist suddenly surrounded his body. His long snake tail slowly morphed into a pair of sting ebony legs and he took a seat on the creaky stairs. "I recceive no pleasure from lies, what I ssay is only the truth, I have been captured here along with you from the SSlither Nest in Alseníum." He looked deeply into my verdants to show me that he was speaking the truth.

"These mundanes are using our abilities to cure a deadly disease that has casted among them but they only desire to take your heart when you're of age."

"W-What?"

"I have been preparing you for you to attack by turning them to stone, but I cannot come along with you and you need to leave before tomorrow you are the princess of your kind after all. The Nagas need you, Now run!"

How can my fears of the basement lead to a whole life of lies? Will I even make it? My feet dashed for the stairs and headed for my from to pack for my next adventure.
