At the cusp of oblivion
The black hole observed the asteroid. He trained his beady eyes on the incoming celestial body. He was hungry, and the asteroid was the right size for a snack, at the right time. He waited, patient, confident of his forceful personality. He knew that the asteroid was on its way, its way to its impeding death. Where it would join the gazillion other asteroids. All united in their death – and burial place. The black hole was an abyss, with endless depth. He attracted stray asteroids and absorbed them in his folds, barely pausing to burp, before another asteroid was on its way. The black hole’s personality wasn’t always this dark. He was once, a happy bright star spreading his bright light all over. He would meet his celestial friends, party with them all night long over weekends. Life was one endless walk across the galaxy, one after the other. Even in his corporate life, he was a rising star, climbing the ladder quickly. The black hole was involved in a lot of important and stressful projects; and they were all energy sapping. But he was happy, he had a job he loved, a beautiful partner, what more can one ask for? Theirs was a perfect union, they balanced each...
