Speech
"Dad, please write my speech!" said Rashmika, worried. Father replied, " Rashmi, I'm tired, come later. " "but papa, Netaji's Birth anniversary is tommorrow and I have to prepare for a speech!" said Rashmika, desperately this time. Father replied, " Go to your mom na, she will help you. Dad is tired beta. " Rashmika ran to her mother, who was cooking in the kitchen. Rashmika said, " Mom, please help me out with the speech!" Mom replied, " Not now Rashmi, Mamma is busy now. Go and wait, I'll write your speech after dinner, ok? " After dinner, Mukherjee family straight goes to bed. So there's no chance of narrating a speech. Rashmika walked to her room with her steps making loud noises as the sign of anger and worry. Entering her room, she sat on her bed and began to think. "How can I write my speech in such a short time? It takes more than 3 hours minimum. But now, it's impossible to compile all the information and write a whole speech. "Everybody is preparing great speeches, and I'm sitting here thinking what should I write?" said Rashmika to herself.
"Rashu, what are you doing?" asked Uncle. Rashmika was excited to see her uncle. Uncle is always her savoiur in the times of danger. He is a college student. Rashmika said, " Chachu, I have to give a speech infront of the whole school tommorrow on Netaji and I haven't written a single word on the paper!"
Uncle looked worried. He thought for a while, and said, "Don't worry Rashu. Everybody is gonna compile all the facts and say. You should do it differently. I will narrate it to you. But it's the last time, ok? Next time, You have to write your speech on your own." Rashmika replied with a wide smile, " ok!"
[The next day]
It's Netaji's birthday today. Everybody has gathered around the flag and paying due respect to our dearest Netaji. Some students have already given their speeches. It's Rashmika's turn now. The announcer announced, "Now Rashmika Mukherjee, student of class V will give a speech about Netaji infront of us. Rashmika, please come on the stage!" A while later, Rashmika went on the stage. Holding the microphone firmly, Rashmika started, " Hello, I'm Rashmika from class V. Firstly, My greetings to all the teachers, my seniors and my classmates. Yesterday, at night, I was sitting on my bed, thinking what I should write. I thought that everyone will be praparing great speeches, and I'm sitting here thinking about What I should write. Then my uncle came, he told me that it's not important that all the speeches should be informative. So, actually, I'm not here to give any speech, but to express my feelings about the great leader whose very close to our heart. Everybody has given speech compiled with information. So there's nothing left that I will add. When we walk through the roads on 23rd jan, Netaji's birthday, we see flags hosted here and there. Every person in our country pays there due respect and show there love for Netaji. But I don't think that, this 'love' is ' just for show'. It's an unconditional love to the man, who crossed the impassable Hindukush range on his feet, who met the dangerous Nazi leader Hitler, who left ICS even after rank fourth just to free India, thinking about the future generations, thinking about us! I'm sometimes ashtonised to see his foresight! How far he thought! Netaji wanted this nation to be free, the people to be free, people's mind to be free.
Firstly, He wanted us to stand on our own feet, not depending on any other nation to grow. Not only our nation, he wanted our youth to be self dependent. But, as we can see, the youth nowadays seems to be very much dependent on others. Today's youth is in their mother's 'pallu'. They can't even boil water at the age of 20. Some people can't even go to bazzar for buying things. The youth is more addicted to soccer mobile game than real football! Today's youth is afraid to work! They should understand that there's a world outside their books and phone. I don't think that Netaji is happy to see all those stuff from heaven. He would have liked to see our youth self dependent, competeting hardly to the foreign countries. In another countries, kids are taught daily works, so that they don't have to depend on anybody in future. But in India, all the work is to be done by the mother of the family.
Secondly, the people have forgotten to give women the respect they should. Women are like the toys of this society. As the society orders, judges, women follow. Netaji never dreamt about this India. He always wanted his India to give respect and justice to women.
Thirdly , He never have got the respect he should have. Neither in his lifetime, nor after his death. All those people, who are celebrating this 23rd january with mutton, pulao and jalebi will be seen steping over the national flag! Thier nationalism appears in that kind of occasions, and vanishes after that day. There respect for Netaji is stored for that particular day and just after the day passes, they become what they were. I want to tell these kind of people, that have some shame in yourself. Nationalism is neither celebrated through mutton, pulao, jalebi nor by writting long posts on facebook. Nationalism is the thing that should be in everybody's mind, people should always be ready to serve this nation. That's the kind of nation that Netaji wanted. We can't demolish corruption completely, but we can stand against the corrupted people. We should protest against any kind of injustice in any part of the country. Netaji was such kind of person. The real way to pay respect to Netaji is not about offering flowers to his photograph or hosting the national flag. The real way to respect and love him is to make the India he dreamt about, together. Jay hind! Jay Netaji!"
There was pin drop silence in the audience. Everybody was keenly looking at Rashmika, who was giving a speech like a Banghini. After 5seconds of silence, the whole audience burst into applause. It was clear, whose speech was better, the informative one, or the heartfelt one.
