Conserving wild
India is known for its wildlife and biodiversity richness therefore conservation of wildlife and forests is a significant measure for ecological stability of its varied expansion of flora & founa.
Conservation of our natural asset we ensure that all diverse species of a particular area survive, breed and flourish.
Wildlife conservation in India has it's primary goal to make cognizant efforts to protect plants and animal species with their habitats.Conservation focused on carrying capacity of land and the reasonable use of natural resources, if they are excess or plenty their use should be permitted, but if the resources decrease, a strict monitoring is done that way conservation is done in situ as well as ex situ, as per the guidelines.
As per WII (wildlife Institute of India) data till 2021 there are 987 PAs, including 106 national parks, 564 wildlife sanctuaries, 99 conservation reserves and 218 community reserves that covers some 5.26 percent of the country's geographic area.
Government of India has initiated few schemes to protect the biodiversity and minimize the mortality of critically endangered, endangered and threatened animals.
Project Tiger, Project Elephant,Project Hangul,snow leopard project,Crocodile conservation project & UNDP sea turtle project are some of the government schemes that are running successfully to conserve wildlife species.
SAWEN is South Asia Wildlife Enforcement Network in which intergovernmental wildlife enforcement support body,launched in Paro, Bhutan in 2011.It was established for mutual collaboration for harmonizing as well as enforcing the wildlife protection.
The Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2022 has been recently passed in the Rajya Sabha. The bill seeks to strengthen the protection of endangered species and enhance punishment for illegal wildlife trade.The bill also enhances the penalties prescribed for violation of provisions of the Act. For 'General violations', maximum fine is increased from 25,000 to 1 lakh.
To enhance the protection of wildlife and ensure the ecological and environmental security of the country many initiatives has been done and many are still ongoing but to attain the goal for our natural asset everyone should join our hands & work in harmony before it extincts.
