My Village - Part 1 (Start of something horror)
Going to his hometown was something that young Akash always looked forward to. He would dearly await the onset of summer vacations not only because it marked the long break from the “tiresome and boring school”, but also because his family would go back to their home village of “Narogam”.

Home to around 800 residents, Narogam is a tiny village located around 150 km away from the city of Dharamshala. Despite being in close proximity to the Tibetan-Buddhist hub which is Dharamshala, the people of Narogam still practiced their ancient forest culture. The Majority of the villagers of Narogam are Hindu by faith. Hidden behind the Shivalik hills of varying heights, Narogam is truly blessed with immense beauty.

On route to his hometown, Akash couldn't wait to reach there so that he could meet his many friends and cousins. Filled with excitement, Akash could barely control himself in the car as they passed the Himachal Pradesh entry toll. Suddenly, Akash’s elder sister, Rishika, yelled at him, “What is wrong with you? Can’t you sit quietly like everybody else?”
Startled by the sudden rebuke, Akash replied, “Come on Didi, We are on a vacation.. Also, why are you yelling at me?? You are the one who should be quiet!”.

“What did you say to me? I should be the one to stay quiet? IT’S NOT ME WHO’S BEHAVING SO RABID, YOU ARE!”, Rishika scolded Akash.
No sooner had they started their usual sibling fight than the parents, who were sitting in the front seats intervened.
Much to the annoyance of Akash, they took the side of his “elder” sister.
“Rishika’s right Akash! We are going to reach Narogam soon.. No need to be so hyper”,
Akash took these lines from his parents as an unfair intervention in his sibling rivalry with his sister. “Exactly, There is nothing to be so excited about”, Rishika said, looking at Akash in a way that made him feel inferior.

“ThErE iS nOtHiNg tO bE eXcItEd AbOuT”, Akash said in a taunting manner, showing to his sister that she was celebrating nothing but a small win in their years-long rivalry. Of course, Akash had not surrendered.. “I don’t why you are always so nonchalant about the village as if you don’t like going there”, he continued.

Rishika who looked very inclined to answer, suddenly stopped and started to look outside. What was it that suddenly made his always ready-to-prove-him-wrong sister look outside even though she hadn’t even taken notice of those very sceneries before? Akash was thinking the same and willing to take the conversation further when his parents decided to change the topic of discussion altogether.

It was weird but Akash decided to go with the wind and soon joined the conversation which had nothing to do with their trip in the first place. “NO, Nan is much better than a paratha!”, he exclaimed.

He could still feel the tension on the faces of his parents and his sister, which he traced to the question he had asked minutes before. Akash loved nature and his village had an abundance of it. But, unbeknownst to Akash, it was not just beautiful hills and lakes that his village boasted to have.

His village also homed something dark… something evil…something sinister.
