A Small Step.....
#WritcoStoryPrompt37
The severely malnourished child was on the verge of death. I quickly set up an IV to give him much needed nutrition and other supplements.
Hours later when he was stable I turned in anger upon the illiterate parents. " Why are you starving this child? He needs proper food! "
Tears dropped down the broken, skeletal man who stood before me with folded hands. "Look around you, Doctor Sahib, the land is dead. We have no food."
Hearing this i was astonished the man who grow food for others was now facing the scenario of food calamity. This year the monsoon was very less due to which farmers where struggling to grow crops and on top of that the village lands become barren.
The skeletal man spoke again , "We used to grow crop and earn enough to fulfill our basic requirement but this year struck us and took everything away even the government did not help us instead of that they increased our problems by implementing new policies which do no good to us. we are those people who serve our country by growing food crops but when we need help there is not a single soul who help us. I know doctor sahib you might me thinking we are cruel parents but there is no way out for us."
I was loss of words when i heard the man he was showing in a way reality of our nation we tend to help those who can give us fame or return back our help but when it comes to real selfless help very few of us increase our hands to provide help. Whenever there is food in our plate we either waste it or think we are at least fortunate but very few people think how it comes to our plate it is because of the selfless service by these farmers who grow crops each year by facing many problems we should thank them or at least provide some help to them when they need it.
This small incident changed my life i gave the child some supplements for his health and some money to his parents so that they can fulfill their basic necessities for now. I know it was just one family and a very small help looking around the village there are many such family and many children suffering from malnutrition.
From the very next day onwards i had a talk with one of my friend who was an entrepreneur and he contacted his other partners who were working on organic farming methods and providing jobs to farmers. When i discussed this to then they were more eager to help. Firstly they knew the land was barren so their companies main focus was on growing a crop which need little attention and facilities.
Later on many people helped us in our initiative and within few days a lot of people help us in many forms some with donations some by providing jobs to farmers and villagers and many help by giving food supplies.
Eventually the situation of the village normalises a bit and within few years it was far better than before.
5 years later
The child was lying on the bed and i gave him injection but this time it was a vaccine to safeguard them from diseases as they were in a good health. When i met Gopi the farmer who came few years back he was beyond recognisable and very happy. Seeing his happiness and many like him I felt its very rightly said BE THE CHANGE YOU TO SEE the change of heart which i felt 5 years back help a lot of people a small step changed many lives........
