If you're from my part of the world, then more likely than not, you're aware of what it means, when one is called a monitoring spirit. For those of you that may not know what it is. Here goes a recent happening that shows yours truly being one. So there's this girl I follow on Instagram. The only common factor we seem to share, is the profession I used to be in. Truth is, I started following her, mainly because of her positive mentality. Plus, she is beautiful, well spoken and, always dressed to kill. Things I desire to be one day, and so I decided to follow her as a source of inspiration, as to who I wish to be one day. Apparently, she made a huge announcement on mother's day. Something I initially missed, but later got to know of, via her instagram feed. That she is a mother. As in she recently gave birth. Which is good news by the way. Problem is, before I knew it, I was already doing the calculation. To the point that I went to check the date she got married. What I arrived at was, baby girl was most likely pregnant at her wedding. But what does it matter? Whether she was pregnant before, during or after her wedding? It's her body, her life and her decision to make. She's happy at the end of the day. And that's all that matters. Lesson here is, be careful who you share your good news with. For not all who seem happy, are genuinely happy for you. Learn to keep certain things to yourself. Not everything is for public consumption. Beginning to sound like my sister right now. I tend to over share everything. She on the other hand, says the bare minimum. Polar opposites! But that's a story for another day. So there you go. One instance I found myself being a monitoring spirit. Truth is, monitoring spirits have nothing exciting going on in their personal lives. So they spend most of their time "monitoring" the interesting lives of others. Resist the urge to be a monitoring spirit, when the opportunity presents itself. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. Rather work on living an interesting life. And you'll have little to no time left, to poke your nose into the affairs of others. That's what I've decided to do from henceforth. Hope you'll join me?
