Chapter 2: Unexpected Kisses
Mike held Lisa tightly, rocking her back and forth as she sobbed uncontrollably.
"Tell me what happened, Lisa," Mike said softly.
After a while, Lisa finally spoke up.
She explained that Tim had broken up with her that evening without any explanation.
The suddenness of it all had left her heartbroken and confused.
Mike understood Lisa's pain, and he knew that no words could take away the hurt she was feeling.
Instead, he listened patiently and offered her a shoulder to cry on.
As the night went on, Lisa opened up more and Mike became a pillar of support for her.
Mike looked down at Lisa's face, filled with awe.
Even with her messy hair, flaming cheeks and mascara, she's still the most beautiful woman.
Mike leaned forward and kissed Lisa on the lips.
Lisa pulled away from Mike.
Her arms hung limply at her sides.
She looked at Mike with a look of pure surprise on her face and a blank look in her eyes.
Mike sat on the floor of his room, feeling like a complete idiot.
How could he have kissed Lisa in that moment of vulnerability?
He knew it was wrong, and he couldn't bear the thought of losing her friendship over his impulsive actions.
After a few minutes of self-loathing, Mike heard a soft knock on his door.
Lisa's voice came through, hesitant and shaky. "Mike, can I come in?"
Mike hesitated, unsure of what to expect, but he slowly got up and opened the door.
Lisa stood in front of him, her eyes red and teary, but there was a hint of something else in her expression.
"I... I didn't mean to run from you," Mike stammered. "I don't know what came over me."
Lisa stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Mike, holding him tightly.
"I was shocked, but I also felt something when you kissed me," she admitted quietly.
Mike's heart raced as he processed her words.
"I never meant to take advantage of you, Lisa. I care about you too much to let that happen."
Lisa pulled back slightly, meeting Mike's gaze. "I know. And I care about you too, Mike. Maybe... we can figure things out together."
The tension in the room dissipated as they looked at each other, realizing that their feelings for each other had been simmering beneath the surface for a while.
