The River's Secret

The forest was alive with chirping birds and the soft rustle of leaves as the Edwards family walked along the riverbank. The sun sparkled off the water, creating silver ripples. It was supposed to be a perfect family camping trip.

“Careful, Tommy!” Rachel Edwards called, watching her youngest charge ahead. Her daughter, Emma, rolled her eyes and dragged her feet behind.

“Mom, he’s fine,” Emma mumbled.

But Tommy wasn’t fine. The boy tripped. His small body tumbled forward, arms flailing, and before anyone could shout, he splashed into the dark river.

“Tommy!” Rachel screamed.
