Dark Secrets Chapter III
Amethyst P.O.V
"Amethyst! Hurry, wake up now!" A loud, shrill voice shouted.
I immediately woke up in alarm.
"Yes, mother what is it? What's wrong?" I asked beginning to shake.
"You're friend Tobiath. He's been taken to the town square to be tortured." She finished in a rush, brushing her hair away from her green eyes.
I shot up and shouted, "Under what charges!?"
She shook her head in defeat, knowing how upset I was by all of this. It couldn’t be. I'd grown up with him, known him since I was born seventeen years ago and he twenty one. He'd never done or did anything to upset the king.
"He went to the castle and was able to leave, but they caught him this morning sweetheart. I'm so sorry."
She came over and embraced me, moving her fragile hands up and down my back. I broke away and ran out of the house. I heard my father yell to me, but I wouldn’t stop.
As I ran down the road, my thoughts began to go wild. I couldn’t stop thinking about what he could have done, but I knew that I needed to save him. I just had to. I loved him.
My feet began to feel like they were burning. The only thing covering them was the soft, thin skin material from an animal. My long, curly dark hair whipped behind me as I tried to pick up my pace. I realized that I was getting closer and closer to the village. The small stoned cottages and cracked stoned road began to make its way into my view.
I stood at the beginning of the village, looking at all the people who were staring back at me. I stood in rags, while the women stood in rags that looked like dresses. The men even had better clothing than the farmers it seemed. I began walking slowly. A man not too far away yelled and shouted holding up a scroll. I carefully approached the man, eyeing every move he made. As I got closer, I heard the very words my mother had told me.
"Tobiath Reser, captured this morning to be tortured for his crimes!..." He yelled before saying more.
At that point, my feet stopped. The weight of the world felt like it was crashing down around me. I brought my hands up to my cheek, wiping away a stray tear. He had really been captured.
"Excuse me, kind sir!" I called to him.
He turned toward me. "Yes, my lady?" He asked folding his scroll up.
"Do you know what it is Tobiath did?" I asked, trying to remain strong, but the crack in my voice betrayed me.
"I'm sorry, my lady, but I cannot tell you that." He replied, turning his back to me and walking away.
"No! You must tell me. I must know why he is being treated like this!" I screamed after him.
When he didn’t turn around, I ran after him.
"You need to tell me now or I'll..."
"You will do nothing to someone of importance to the King unless you wish the same fate Tobiath got!" He whirled around and shot back.
"What did they do to him?" I spoke each word calmly, hoping and praying he would give it up.
"You are NOT to know of that information, my lady. Leave now before..." He suddenly stopped, staring at me closer. No no
I began to feel uncomfortable as his eyes checked me up and down before landing on my face. He began to walk closer as I took a step back. He stopped after I retreated, but continued to stare. I noticed something about his eyes as he stared at me. They had begun to have a red tint. I hadn't realized that I took a step closer. As I stared into his eyes, I felt like I had fallen into a trance. My feet took small steps until I was just an inch away from him. He slowly brought his hand up and motioned for me to come closer. I did until I was right in front of him. His hand came up again to cup my cheek. It was freezing, but I continued to stay still.
As he looked me in the eyes, his head began getting closer to mine until I could feel his cold breath on my neck.
"What is your name?" He whispered in my ear.
"Amethyst." I whispered back softly.
He took a small step back so he could look at my face once more. "You are the one they’ve been looking for." He told me as his lips curled into a distorted grin as he placed his other hand on my shoulder.
I began to come out of the trance after hearing that. I closed and opened my eyes quickly and stared into his red tinted eyes.
"Who is they?" I questioned nervously.
"The Royals, my dear. Come with me." He said quickly, taking my hand.
I was pulled forward with the force of his grip, being almost dragged behind him.
"Wait, no!" I shouted trying to yank my hand away.
"You are to come!" He shot back again.
"No, I..."
"Unhand that woman now!" A deep voice yelled.
The man immediately let go of my hand.
"Sir Thomas, I was just about to take her back to the castle..."
"That is no longer necessary. Spread the word. There is an army on the horizon. I have already reported it to the rest of my army." He told him sternly before looking to me. "I can take her off your hands." He offered putting his hand out for me to take.
Instead of taking his hand, I took a step away from both of them and ran as fast as I could away.
"Get back here this instant!" The knight yelled.
As I ran away, I heard their feet on the stone ground, knowing they were chasing me, but I would stop at nothing to escape.
