Option or Passion
India being a country with lots of IT companies, we can find most of the urban population working for numerous MNC's and small scale industries. It's not a new thing to hear people saying, "I am so tired of this IT life, just want to quit my job man".
Well this is a story of a young IT Engineer Aman who realised the difference between Option and Passion.
After a tiring day at work Aman decided to meet his friend Rahul. Both were good friends from childhood, but had parted ways since Aman went to a bigger city to pursue his Engineering carrer and Rahul stayed back at his hometown and went for his degree and then took a masters and Phd in Psychology. So yes, Rahul became a well know psychologist and later shifted to the city for better opportunities.
"Catch you at 8 P.M in Coffee House said Aman over the phone". Rahul also agreed since it had been a long time they had met each other.
Both reached the restaurant by 8 and ordered their favorite, 'Masala Dosa'. They were enjoying their meal and were reminiscing about all their childhood memories. Suddenly Aman exclaimed, I am quitting this job man, would be putting my resignation tomorrow. Tired of this job. I have decided that i am going to start my own dance studio.
Rahul was perplexed and asked Aman why suddenly he made such a decision. He knew that Aman was a good dancer and had participated in many events but wasn't sure if he wanted to pursue a career in it. Rahul aksed him why this sudden change of mind, since he always wanted to be an Engineer and had landed a dream job for himself.
He could see that Aman was a bit tensed and also angry, he had realised by then that something is wrong. So he wore his councillor's cap and decided to check what was bothering his friend so much.
He asked Aman, what had happened during the day, to which, Aman replied, "don't ask man, i had an argument with my Manager because he asked me to complete some tasks in one day which both of us knew will require more time, and to make matters worse we also had our appraisal meeting, its better i don't talk about it as i don't want to ruin this moment".
Rahul immediately understood that its not because Aman wanted to start a dance studio he decided to quit, its because he was frustrated that day and it was an impulsive decision made by him.
So he asked Aman, how was his day yesterday, to which Aman replied, oh, it was wonderful, had a good time in office, went to have coffee with my colleagues and spent a fruitful day.
Did you think about quitting your job and starting a dance studio yesterday, or anytime before asked Rahul, to which Aman replied "No, i don't think i have ever decided anything like this before".
Rahul then told Aman, "then, that means dance is not your Passion its just an Option for you".

Just because we have rough days at work or collage or at home we usually take impulsive decisions, and here Aman was also about to do the same mistake. What Rahul tried to explain to Aman was very simple. If you have a passion for achieving something or making your hobby as a profession you would always dream of it, you would always try working on it and think about it every day. That would be irrespective of the fact that you had a good or a bad day. It would never be an option for you, it would always be your passion. And believe me only if you have passion for something you would be able to achieve it. Because in every field you would have bad days as well as good days. That doesn't mean you decide to quit and start something else. Aman had dreamt of becoming an Engineer and he was a good one, but his decision to quit was an impulsive one. Many a times in life we make decisions impulsively. As it's rightly said never make any decisions when you are angry, troubled or sad because those would never be the right ones.
Well, Aman did understand what Rahul was trying to explain and ultimately decided to not quit his job.
