Love Is Strange

"First come, last served. Is that how it works now...unfair if you ask me" A voice she knew so well stated
"Only for you" she told him harshly
"Come on, you can't stay mad at me forever"
"Why can't I?"
"I wasn't in the wrong there, that's why!" He pointed out, she looked at him, forgetting she was serving another customer
"Oh no of course not, her lips just fell on yours then huh! You weren't kissing her back at all." She snapped, she looked back at the customer she was serving, "Sorry here you go, on the house" she said as she handed a pint of Guinness to the woman who was trying not to listen to their conversation but finding it difficult. As soon as she was given her drink she scarpered away, having felt awkward.
"Trish' please you can't hold this against me" he pleaded
"Your mouth was attached to hers, so yes I can" she said flatly, "Now go away, you're scaring the customers away" she added
"So when will we talk, because I've tried calling you all week" he pointed out
"Not here that's for sure" she answered and slammed the till shut, storming off to the kitchen.

"Bad evening?" Jack asked her as he was putting some chicken into the oven
"Coby's out there" she stated,as if that explained everything
"Isn't that your boyfriend?" He asked clearly not knowing any of the ins or outs
"Was until his mouth fell on Nancy's."
"How do lips fall on someone else's?" He asked confused
"Exactly they don't" she moaned angrily, "That's just what he wants me to believe." She added
"Right? Well it's original I guess"
"It's not funny, he really is denying this yet it happened right in front of me so how can I even believe his stupid excuses"
"Is that what he really told you?"
"No he said it's not how it seems"

Feeling less worked up after speaking with Jack she went back to the bar. Something about him always made her feel better, he was one of those guys that could put a smile on anyone's face no matter what a person's mood was, he was laid back but not in a lazy way and could make a joke of any situation good or bad. He had fast become a friend to her.
"You look happier" the woman said who had over heard her spat with Coby.
"Had to take a break" she confessed, "had some good company while I was on it" she admitted.
"Sounds like you need a new boyfriend" she told her
"No I just need the one I have to not be such a push over" she answered, "The woman practically threw herself at him, so it wasn't really his fault but he responded which is the part that hurts. So I'm just making him squirm a little bit" she confessed
"Don't blame you, love, if it were me I would have ended it on the spot, but that's just me" The woman stated

The rest of the evening was busy but she managed to keep up, the punters were all gone so she went around wiping the tables when Jack joined her
"Was busy tonight wasn't it?" he said as he went around putting the chairs upside down on the tables
"Yeh,' I prefer that tho" she confessed.
"I know this is gonna be a personal question but are you planning to stay with Coby?" He asked her directly
"Yeh it wasn't his fault"
"He responded through"
"Why are you asking?" She asked him
"Just wondered that's all" he answered.

Coby was home when she got there he was in his usual place in the gaming chair,
"Are you ready to talk to me now?" He asked her putting his controller down and turning his mic off, she looked at him, knowing she meant a lot to him as she had never known him to come out of a game for anyone or any situation.
"Yeh, look I know it wasn't your fault, it just hurt you responded to it"
"Natural response," he told as though that covered the reason, "I didn't want that. You my gal and that's how I want it to remain," he told her gently, "but if you can't see past it then I understand that too" he added
"I can" she promised him she sat in his lap and kissed him. "I love you," she told him
"I love you too" he promised her.
