410 AD. The Sack of Rome:

The Germanic Visigoths charged into the narrow, muddy, streets of Rome, killing all before them. One man stood over the tiny bodies of the children he had cut down, his hand covering his mouth. His stomach churned. He knew the Roman Empire had to be stopped. But this senseless slaughter of young innocents was a desperate tragedy. King Alarics' orders had been clear: "Everyone dies. Young, old, male or female. The Roman oppressors must be put to the sword." The man shook his head, hating himself for his part in this.

Present Day

"It's great to have you back, John," Zack hugged his brother when he arrived at the Supernatural Bureau of Investigation headquarters.

"I'm glad to be back. Just in time for Christmas too. I thought I'd never get out. Vincent's Covid outbreak didn't help. Convincing my psychiatrist I wasn't still contemplating suicide was hard work as well."

"Well, it's over now, John. The question is: What has Chief Dubois got in store for us next?"

"I shall tell you. Good to have you back with us," Tristan Dubois nodded at John as he approached the brothers.

Jay and Dina stood up from their desks, coming over to hear what their boss had to say.

"Some German children in British Colombia have mysteriously gone missing."

"That's awful! Especially near Christmas," Dina said.

"Yes. Well my researchers think there may be a connection with Christmas."

The others looked at each other puzzled.

"Have you heard of Krampus?" Dubois asked.

Jay and Dina shook their heads. Recognition showed on John and Zack's faces.

"We've seen the film," Zack said.

"Chief!" A researcher called out anxiously. "You need to see this, sir."

They all went over to him. The researcher was watching a YouTube video. It showed a man riding a red horse through the war torn streets of Ukraine leading a Platoon of Russian soldiers.

"My God!" Dubois said. "This must be the War Horseman."

"What are we going to do, sir?" John asked.

"Nothing, John. We don't get involved in wars."

"So we're just going to let the apocalypse happen?" Zack asked.

Chief Tristan Dubois looked unwell. "I don't know what we can do. This may well be beyond us."

They stood there looking sombre.
