Harry Potter: A Critical Analysis by Maryam Abdul Wahid
It is an eight chapter series of novel by J.K Rowling revolving around the protagonist Harry Potter and his escapades. Harry attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry accompanied by his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. He learns to perform magic in the school along with his fellows. As every story is incomplete without an antagonist, the role is occupied by Lord Voldemort. This review is written on the film adaptation of novel.

When the movie comprises of some satisfactory qualities, it lacks in several traits, simultaneously. Beginning with the adaptation, the film presents extraordinary visualization. The graphics are incredibly fine. The scenes are edited brilliantly when it comes to the art work. Taking the example of Hogwarts. The school is shown standing with all the glory and grandeur. But what is suspicious is that the structure of the school kept changing with the progress of series. The point comes in notice because the school is introduced to be old hundreds of years. Then how can the erection change?

The series begins with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall drop baby Harry to his aunt’s house. Petunia Evans Dursley, Lily Potter’s sister, the one who never liked her sister because of her witchcraft. But might be the need of time, or helplessness as Harry has no other relative living. The adventures of Harry start from his entry in Hogwarts. His selection in quidditch, the secret behind the attempts to kill Harry, even during the game, his win as a Seeker catching the Golden Snitch. Later on, the whole mystery reveals when Harry and Professor Quirrill come face to face.

The objectionable point in this meeting is the concealment of Lord Voldemort under Quirrill’s turban. Although, the turban is styled in a way so that no one can sense the existence of Voldemort, but in some measures it is perplexing and questionable. But, the film excellently played with the enigma and the pursuit of the person trying to murder Harry. The movie ends with the disclosure of all the secrets being discussed and finding of the Philosopher’s stone. Professor Dumbledore announces the demolition of the stone as the conclusion. What initiated never to be ended was a beguiling friendship.

The second part is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This slice of the cake also starts with the misbehavior of Dursley family with Harry. Dobby; the house elf, tries to stop Harry from going back to Hogwarts with intention to help him, ends up putting him in troubles. He helps Harry subsequently, although he is bound to serve a certain family, later disclosed to be the Melfoys. This time Ron Weasley along with his brothers, appears to rescue Harry. And they fly to the Weasley’s (a weird family) house.

Later, Gilderoy Lokhart, unreasonably, the attraction of all the ladies, is introduced. A snob, presents a clownish character, most likely to be used as source of comedy. He is nothing for good, an annoying personality. Moreover, Lokhart causes nuisance during the movie.

Another mischievous fact is that, no one detects when the wizards get through the wall to reach station no 9¾. But as soon as Harry and Ron get bumped into the wall, they get notices. Strange. Then Ron, a boy just of 12, drives, rather flies the car. Quite uncertain. Getting through all the troubles, they reach Hogwarts, somehow. Overall, a bit comic relief is given in the beginning leading to a stressful feat.

The Chamber of Secrets demonstrates Tom Riddle’s desire to meet Harry. Riddle, divulged as Lord Voldemort in the part, wanted to know why the baby with no extraordinary talent escaped with nothing but a scar, when Lord Voldemort’s powers were destroyed. Secondly, Riddle aspired to fulfill the dream of Salazar Slytherin, to restrict the magic to pureblooded people. Thirdly, it was a quest of Lord Voldemort to...
