Into the flames rising out of a setting sun,
I draw in a deep breath before I run far into the horizon.

I feel the air as it fills my lungs and a wide smile spreads across my face, I have never felt alive.

My legs are strong and good, it runs fast down the grassy hill towards the fields. The wind surrounds me, as of trying to compete with me, so it becomes and stronger but amazingly, I'm racing past the wind.

I am stronger and faster than the wind!

My body aches a bit as I run down the hill, but I don't mind, I am having the time of my life.

Then I hear a sound, surrounding the hill.

It's a lady, she's calling my name and it sounds very distant.

"Alan" she says, but it sounds like merely a whisper until it becomes louder and louder whilst I tumble down the hill.

Suddenly I find myself on a bed, a white bed covered with white sheets.

It was only just a dream and now I've awakened to the real world, in which I am a twelve year old boy who is battling leukaemia.

It was my mother who woke me from that dream. It was her voice that I heard.

I'm grateful, that I had such a beautiful dream where I could use my legs properly without needed support, where I could breathe without an oxygen support.

"You scared me." My mum said, she sat at her usual spot beside the bed, sometimes I sleep off as see that she has put on a new outfit.
It seems that whenever I close my eyes, she hurries off to change then comes back when I open my eyes, so she will always be right there by my side.

She looked worn out as usual but her smile never ceased to be warm.

I smiled back and for the first time in my life, I did something daring.

"I am going to get better mum." I said, louder than expected.

"I am going to walk again and become a cross country runner like I've always dreamed."

My mum stared at me for a while, she didn't say anything then tears started to flow down her eyes.

I felt I had upset her.

"Mum...?" I said then managed to sit up.

But she waved at me laughing, to show that she is okay, so I immediately relaxed.

"I asked God for a sign to show me that my son will get well." She said, that warm smile still on her face, eyes sparkling with tears.

"I never knew the sign would come from you." she said again then intertwined her fingers with mine, "and so will it be in Jesus name, Amen."

Then we said a short prayer after that and I felt a whole lot of peace and conviction.

The road to recovery would not be easy but I will surely get there.
