When we talk about Best Bollywood movies based on friendship nobody can ever forget Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. Not only friendship but YJHD is an epitome of choosing freedom and joy over anything else. This is a story of four friends who are independently living their life in their own terms.
Topper Naina – an introvert girl dares to go on a trekking trip with her classmates for the first time as she is fed up of fulfilling her parent’s expectations and living her boring life. In the journey she meets Bunny, a free spirited smart guy who often flirts with girls. He is on his way to explore the world - A Wanderlust, best title for him. He wants to travel the world and seeks adventure in life. Aditi who secretly starts falling for Avi; but she doesn’t confess her love toward Avi because he wouldn’t care for her feelings.
The same thing happens with Naina. After spending some days with Bunny she loses her heart to him but she decides to bury those emotions as she knows Bunny doesn’t believe in such concepts of spending the entire life with same person. As per his perspective – “Marriages are boring because one has to eat ‘Daal-Roti’ for the rest of his life. Instead of having same food every day, one should try different recipes like Hakka-Noodles, Keema, Pulaav etc.”
After meeting bunny, she realizes that she should love herself rather than waiting for someone to love her. Life can be beautiful too if you enjoy it. Bunny wouldn’t like to marry a girl like her. So, she refrains from expressing her emotions to him. When the trip gets done, each one drifts apart.
8 years passes by and Naina has completed medical school and works in a clinic. On the other hand Bunny is a videographer who works for travel shows. Avi is a owner of a bar coping up with bankruptcy; he hasn’t achieved much in his previous years.
They all meet once again in Aditi’s wedding at Udaipur where Bunny surprises Aditi, Avi and Naina by attending the marriage. Aditi has completely moved on and she has been dating to Taran. Therefore she chooses him to marry because he respects and loves her the way she always wanted. In the party, Bunny gets jealous of seeing Naina with another guy (Naina’s boyfriend) and he starts fighting with him. Naina talks to sort things out.
Bunny is happy with his life but still missing her father who passed away some times ago and often curse himself for not being able to come to his father’s cremation. He realizes that he is more happy when he is with Naina.
Bunny decides to spend her entire life with Naina and tells her that he is ready to eat ‘Daal-Roti’ till the end. Naina refuses his proposal stating that he shouldn’t give up on his dreams because of her. Yet Bunny makes up his mind to marry her. Both agree and the movie ends with a happy ending.
