Millions of years ago the earth was ruled by the dinosaurs. The growing number of dinosaurs was a threat to other animals and plants. So all the animals decided to convene a meeting to set some rules to ensure a safe future for everyone and the planet.

As this was the Jurassic period all the animals that came were dinosaurs and their close relatives. Among them were two dinosaurs that were majestic and fierce. They were the Supersaurus and Tyrannosaurus. There were also smaller and less fierce ones like the Phytosaur and the Archaeopteryx.

“Mr. Supersaurus you are hundred thousand times bigger than me. You eat so much food there is nothing left for us. We are constantly foraging for food but jungles are destroyed when you and your families pass through them. Can you please give us a small piece of land where we can live peacefully.” said the Archaeopteryx.

Supersaurus was angry with this demand.

“You little thing with your puny wings, how dare you come here and tell me what I should do. We have been here longer than any of you. It is our right. We will eat an entire jungle if we want to. Live on our scraps or die.” said the Supersaurus.

Next came the Phytosaur.

“Greetings everyone. Most of you may not know me. I am also a dinosaur. I am called the Phytosaur. I live in water or near water. Recently the food there has started growing scarce. If you dinosaurs will allow me I would like to come to land and hunt at least once a week. That is all I ask.” said the Phytosaur.

The Tyrannosaurus laughed.

“I know your kind. You eat small fishes and frogs. Now you want to taste something bigger and juicier. Come to the land as much as you want. You can hunt or be hunted.” said a Tyrannosaurus.

“Are these guys tasty?” asked another Tyrannosaurus.

“I don’t know. Should we find out?” asked the first Tyrannosaurus.

The Phytosaur rushed back to its swamps.

It was established loud and clear that the land belonged to the Supersaurus and the Tyrannosaurus. They were not willing to yield anything for other animals. The unhappy animals prayed that something awful should happen to the Supersaurus and Tyrannosaurus. And that is what happened.

One day when the big boys and girls were busy destroying the jungle a large meteor struck earth. This resulted in earthquakes and volcanoes of magnitude previously unknown. Most of the jungles were destroyed and food became scarce for the Supersaurus. The volcanoes polluted the air and there were toxic fumes everywhere. This began to kill most of the animals. The Tyrannosaurus couldn’t find any prey to hunt. The Phytosaur and Archaeopteryx too were affected but a few of them were able to survive by staying under water or flying off to high places.

When the earth returned to normally again all the biggies were gone. The phytosaurs evolved into crocodiles. They stayed close to the water afraid of facing another catastrophe. The Archaeopteryx evolved into numerous types of birds ruling the skies.
