Saying No To Toxic Friends
So I met Kweku and Akua, when they came to do some volunteer stuff with my mother. Their main focus however was to tour Africa. So this was by the way.

Earlier on, I had seen Kwaku at work and greeted him. He look right at me, and pretended not to see, or hear me greet him. Till this incident, I had heard people talk about how friendly Akua is, while Kwaku is the polar opposite. Being someone who likes to form my own opinion about people, I decided to give them a chance. Sad to say,but the above notion was true. And even worse i found out, they are also into manipulation. The worse possible type ever.

So what really happened? Well, due to covid 19, I moved out of my parents house. The only place I found, which was "affordable" at that time and closer to my workplace, was coincidentally where they were also staying. I personally like to keep my "personal friends" away from my " work friends" after work. Life is less stressful that way, in my humble opinion. And so I moved in. And guess which room I got? The one right opposite theirs! Sometimes I can't help but wonder if this was a coincidence or not.

Any way, from then onwards Akua would occasionally chat with me, and I'd give a polite answer. Not really one for beating around the bush. Mind you, they had been assigned a driver to take them anywhere they wanted to go. So one day, I got a message from Akua, asking if they can use my car for personal errands if need be. To which I said no problem. They can use the car on days I'm home. I'm by the way, an introvert, and so when I'm done with work, you'll most likely find me at home. And so life went on.

Till one day, while at work I had a message from Akua, asking if they can use my car later that day or the next one. To which i initially agreed to later that day, but something urgent came up. And so, I sent her a message that I will be late that day, hence we should make it the next day instead. In case you're wondering what they needed the car for. It was to buy some grocery from the supermarket.

To which she sent me a message, about how they're doing all this volunteer work, and that if I can't give them my car, then they'll have to use a taxi or an uber. Now, one thing I hate in my life, is when people pretend to be something they're not. Or when people are not clear, on exactly what they want from you. I'm a black or white type of person. And actually do make a conscious effort to stay away from such people.

The last time I checked, to volunteer means to do something out of your heart, with no strings attached or expecting nothing in return. Anything else, is a contract, and must have the terms and conditions clearly stated. I don't know, or care about whatever deal they had with my mum. I was never a part of it to begin it. I only stepped in, to help from a human aspect. Expecting nothing in return.

Anyway, to cut the long story short, I told her, I'm done. No more lending my car to them. They have drivers on call, to take them wherever they wish to go. From that moment onwards, they ceased to exist to me. I simply blocked her number, and moved on with my life.

It is awkward between Akua and I, when we meet at work, but such is life. We simply say hi, and keep it moving. As for Kwaku, I just walk right past him, like a ghost. I must admit, it felt good to to give him a taste of his own bitter medicine. Anyway I sincerely wish them well. But I've decided to close this chapter of my life and move on to the next one. Ever since then, my life has been drama free. And truth to be told, I love it that way.
