These Shoes

I have these pair of shoes
That have walked hundreds of miles
The traveling they've been through
The pavement and the tiles
Inside these shoes, they carry a soul
With two blistered feet
A heart that's no longer whole
Trying to find the rhythm when it beats

These shoes have been ripped apart
Way too many times
But put back together so they could start
A different path for them to find
All those paths went the same way
Leading me to here and now

Those shoes walked so far astray
I just can't help to wonder how
How are they still walking
With bloodied feet and blisters
After all the storms that have been stalking
Especially that great big twister
Two ripped soles carrying a broken soul
Like two best friends that never part

Walking together where ever they go
Trying to mend a broken heart
The things they have seen
Pain they have endured
A life that's been mean
In a world so absurd
Only I have worn these shoes
Every step taken has been mine
No one else has ever used

These shoes that I always shine
Those paths I took all by myself
I didn't see anyone else there
I put my shoes back up on the shelf
Every time I got back from somewhere
So no one has the right to tell me
They've been in my shoes before
As far as I can see

I was the only one walking through those doors
Everyone has their own path to walk
Miles they have to travel
We might all have been stalked
By something painful under the gravel
No one has ever worn your shoes
Like no one has ever worn mine
You I would never accuse
To be in the same path I find

So when I say I have these shoes
That have walked hundreds of miles
These shoes you have never used
I've been wearing them all the while
Two soles carrying a broken soul
Everywhere they go
Trying to mend a heart that's not whole
In a human they no longer know.
