we are now in the process of notifying new merger
control regulation kaur added

a transansaction for the purpose of deciding wheather
it requirs competion commision of india approval or not
the regulation will also explain
how cci will speed up merger
regulations by cutting down the maximum allowed time
a decision on a transaction from
210 days to 150 days
a provision that was also introduced in the law last year

code of conduct is lifted after the polls as the
government has to notify certains provision of
the amendment law
as per amendments introduce to the
competion law last year
cci approval is needed for any transaction
if the value of it is more than 2000 crore
even if the deal does not otherwise
meet the assest and sales thrashold for merger

cci has to make a first imperrasion
of a deal within 30 days
failing which it will be deemed to be approved
kaur also explained that the emergency
of new age markets has led to a revamp in competion
laws around the world as digital economy
adds to the complexities
in fact the digital economy has challanged
traditional competion law framework
worldwide
countries and economic blocks have responded
by either adapting domestic laws
or introducing new regulations
specifically targeting digital markets
there has been a marked increased in scrutiny
of digital technology companies around the world
kaur said
kaur said that cci is also initiating a market study
on artificial intelligence the transformative power of ai
has sifnificant pro competion potential
but at the same time there may be competion concern
emanating from the use of ai
the study will be a knowlege building exercise
to develop an indepth understanding
of the emerging competion landscape
kaur said
digital markets needs to be regulated
to prevent a winner
a few companies may dominate the market
all scenarios
that companies gathering large amount of data
could pose concern around compition
the raises concern about data dominance
where control over large data sets
can create insurmountable barriers to entry she said
